How are you incorporating Teenage Childern into Ceremony?

The Future Mrs. Warfield, on December 14, 2013 at 11:46 AM Posted in Planning 0 3

FH and I both have a child - him a daughter and I have a son. His daughter will be 17 and my son will be 18 at the time of our wedding. I am very close to my son and his daughter lives out of state - we want to find an "adult" way to include them in the ceremony. My son is "giving me away" which is very symbolic to us because of our closeness and the fact he is leaving for college a month later; his daughter is one of my bridesmaid.

For example, with smaller children, I've seen them presented with a piece of jewelry, multiple candle/sand vases...Do any of you have teenage children? Did you do anything "special" for them?

He has a son who is 13 now will be 14 by then, he is Best Man. I was thinking of having a 3rd candle for unity ceremony, not a fan of the sand. Have not really researched it much.

You & FH could say vows to each other's child.

I have kids: a 15 and 11 year old twins. To start we are having a family sand ceremony where we pledge vows to the kids as parents and not daters. Next we have made my 15 (who will be 16 on OWD) as a groomsmen. The twins choose their positions. My daughter is junior Maid of Honor and her twin is the junior Best man. We gave every child a choice on what they wanted to do and be. Finally we are having a family dance to celebrate our family's union and also each child has designed their own cake. So yes we have a traditional 2 tier for us but the kids had a say in their own cake that they designed. Every guest that knows were brought to tears at how every turn was about our family not just TBAG.
