How are people getting addresses for their invites?

Ashley, on May 18, 2017 at 12:59 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 25

Collecting addresses for my wedding guests is giving me so much anxiety. I feel like I just don't know where to begin.

For now, the plan is to send out a survey via private message on Facebook (for my guests who have one). For everyone else (mostly family), I plan on asking my mom and fmil to reach out to them.

Is this a weird way to go about it? How did/are you all collecting addresses for your wedding guests?

Yes, a survey is a weird way to do it.

    Just ask people.

I created a Facebook event and added everyone on there explain to them that this isn't an invite and they will be getting a formal invitation in the mail. I created and account with postable and added my link in the event so that way they could all add there addresses privately.

Text, Facebook messages, calls (in the case of my grandma, who lives far away and barely knows how to turn on a computer), and FSIL, who got married a few years ago and so still has pretty much all family addresses. Other than a few friends, now, we've got them all.

Text, email mostly; Facebook if I don't have their number or email address; for people I don't know well, ask mutual friends, relatives.

Sending out a link to everyone from postable.com - they insert address, name, s/o's name, birthday, cell phone number and birthday if you want them to.

"Hey aunt Sally, what is your address so we can send you a wedding invitation?"

"APD, we are looking forward to celebrating with you and FH! Our address is 123 ABC Street."

"Thanks aunt Sally, we are looking forward to celebrating with you as well!"

That's how I got the addresses.

Both sets of parents have Christmas card lists of our relatives and their friends, who were invited. We already had a list of addresses of most of our friends. We texted/called a few, who we knew moved or planned to move.

Seconding @juanita's suggestion of postable. it was awesome and super easy. it even creates a spreadsheet for you.

also, it has a feature for you to fill in your partner's name, which was great for my FH's friends since apparently he doesn't know how to spell some of his friend's girlfriend's names....

My mom already had most of my family. I just had to ask friends.

Do you have a close family member that sends out Christmas cards? They may have a list.

If not, ask individually. It's daunting, but more personable.

I sent private messages, email texts and made phone calls to ask.

"Hey!, can you give me your address (snail)" worked well.

I transferred them to a spreadsheet - then used a mail merge for labels

I asked my mom, and future in-laws to give me lists of names and addresses of people that they would like to invite. We want to keep a small guest list so we also added that we have final say of who makes the cut, and will pass around the list of invited guests prior to sending out save the dates.

Text and email. I put an Facebook post up to forward your addresses to me. That was an easy copy and paste into an excel document.

I also sent out a link from postable for them to enter their address. It was super self-explanatory and I got everyone's easily.

Otherwise my mom and FMIL each have address books of family members and my FHs entire family has a google sheet of everyone's addressses (from grandma all the way to cousins) so that was super easy.

Thank you to everyone who answered (kindly)! FH and I are in the midst of a big move and job changes and neither of us have the time or energy to reach out to everyone individually (the conversations are never that quick). I just wanted to know if what I was planning would be a huge faux pas.

I really appreciate all of the suggestions!

Mostly facebook messenger. "Hey! I'm working on invites--what's your mailing address?" FH got his relatives' addresses from his mom, and I had my parents look up some family friends in the phone book (older folks in a small town).

I had a list of my brother's wedding guest list from 3 years ago when I needed to send out shower invites, so the guests that I invited that were on their list, I was able to transfer to my list.

Otherwise anyone else, I sent a text to.
