For now, the plan is to send out a survey via private message on Facebook (for my guests who have one). For everyone else (mostly family), I plan on asking my mom and fmil to reach out to them.

Is this a weird way to go about it? How did/are you all collecting addresses for your wedding guests?

Mostly asking my family to ask around, and texting or using messenger for the rest.

My mother and FMIL both have massive old school address books that they keep updated that is 90% of the guest list right there.

I totally understand! And honestly I don't know how I was able to get the addresses. My advice would be is to try to reach out to each household yourself. Don't and I repeat do not depend on grandma or aunty or mom to get that relative or friends address. I did that and I ended up sending late invitations. So I reached out to distant aunts and cousins by anything I could, instagram, facebook, asking for addresses by mutual friends. Just make sure your able to get the addresses and don't be afraid to straight up ask "Hey aunt sally, could we get your address to send a wedding invitation to you"?
