Hi all!

I recently joined WW, and this is my first discussion post. I've looked at about 4 wedding venues and finally realized that I loved the gardens or patios best for each location. Therefore, I'm now considering an outdoor wedding at the Houston Zoo at the Reflection Pool location. Has anyone held their wedding at the Houston Zoo? If so, was it successful? Also, if you don't mind me asking, what is the rental fee? I'm trying to keep the cost of ceremony/reception to under $12k, including chairs, tables, linens, glassware, silverware, set up/clean up, seated dinner, and a basic bar option. Thank you so much for your input!

    I have no information, but I think this is a great idea! I went to a wedding at the Bronx zoo, and even though I've been at hundreds of weddings, this one was one of my faves!!!

    I say go for it. However, every wedding is different. Just because one wedding was successful/wrought with trouble, doesn't mean your wedding will be successful/wrought with trouble. Also, as far as pricing, you should contact the venue. Most vendors charge different prices on different days.

    I've never had a client ask about the zoo before, but here in Houston, as I'm sure you're aware, there are TONS of gorgeous parks and open spaces available for a minimum fee, of course positioning yourself to gain a temporary liquor license on Parks land could get tricky, but I think a park with a reputable well-priced event rental company might loosen your budget up a bit.

    Your guest list also is a major determining factor of what your budget would be. Just keep that in mind.

    We held our reception at the zoo, and it was AMAZING. The staff was great, the food was great, and location was beautiful. The prices were about half those of the local hotels/ballrooms/restaurants/B&Bs.
