Houston Garden Center Wedding

Private User, on January 25, 2013 at 12:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 11

Has anyone had their wedding in the Houston Garden Center? I am considering using that as my venue. The Gazebo on the east side and the circle to rent for 3 hours are $50 dollars and they look really pretty for an outdoor wedding. As well as their largest room is only 260 for 3 hours (of course you add about 40 bucks per extra hour) which is not bad at all. However, I know that all the decorating and things like that will fall to me. I just wanted an opinion on what I should do.

I haven't seen that place but you can't beat the price that is awesome! And even if you have to decorate that's can be cheap it you do it yourself..

I had a friend who had a wedding there and she said that she loved it. I think she wil l help me plan. I just don't want to feel overwhelmed since it is not a one stop shop or anything like that.

If it makes you feel better, continue to look until you know for sure if that's exactly what you want to do. There is so many places to look in the Houston area so dont just rely on one specific place if thats not what you want to do, BUT if money is the problem go with what you think is best. I personally didnt want to lift a straw the day of the wedding and so I chose a place that could do it all for me. Yes, its more money, but in the end I will get EVERYTHING that I want including the food, decorations, etc with the venue. The only thing I didnt get was the cake(tammy allen), dj (booked with 97.9the box), and florist and they all deliver themselves to the venue. Gotta know how to work around what you want.

Money is probably the biggest problem. I had already pushed my wedding back a year when I lost my job and I don't want to do that again. So I am trying to look at all my options.

Hi Grace, I am also using the Houston Garden Center as my venue for the wedding ceremony. The price was what initially caught my attention also. Ive talked to people who have gone to weddings there before and they said it was beautiful. My only issue now is finding a reception location, b/c money is an issue for me as well.

I see that you said your wedding date is Nov 16., you might want to make sure they will actually be open. When I went to visit, one of the ladies working the grounds said they were not accepting reservations after July b/c they would be closed for renovations.

    Good luck!!!

Oh my, I guess I better call and check it out ASAP. As far as the reception, you aren't going to use their facility?

No, it seemed "dated" if you know what I mean. Im trying to find something inexpensive on short notice. Hopefully it will work out. You might also want to check out The Heights Fire Station (reception) and Marimon Park (ceremony spot). The prices are reasonable as well.

I almost choose them BC of their price, but, i was told i couldn't take down the pictures etc, and one of their rooms it's painted lime green. Wouldn't work for new years eve red And black! It just resembled more of a daycare, from what pictures i could see online and that definitely wasn't what i wanted. If you used bright colors then it could work!
