Hotel Block - why do they need my credit card?

Natalie, on December 27, 2019 at 1:52 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

OK ladies I have another question, I found a hotel that doesn't hold us financially responsible if rooms are unused, so I wanted to go ahead and book rooms with them. However, they're asking for a credit card number to keep on file. Each guest will be paying individually, and I don't want my credit card on file with the hotel in fear that I will be charged for something. Is this normal?

My contract had something similar to that, but they only wanted it on file if we were paying for large groups of people like if we were covering the costs of a group of people's hotel rooms. So because we weren't they didn't require it to be on file.

My room blocked required my CC information. I was a little concerned as well but I have in writing we are not liable for any costs for unused rooms. They will just be released to the public a month prior to our date. I think they need it to hold the rooms. Just read your contract carefully and I think you will be fine.

Usually this is required because most room block contracts state that you are responsible for the conduct of people in your room block. If they cause damage, you are charged for the repair.

Ohh, I hadn't thought about incidentals. That makes sense.

I may try to negotiate not needing a card on file.

Yeah that’s what my contract said, that’s the only reason I know! I will definitely make sure people are on their best behavior haha

I have same scenario as you and wasn’t asked for a credit card. I would ask them why, that’s interesting.

One out of three hotels I blocked asked for that, but I never got a charge.

I think that’s pretty standard for a hotel block. Similar to what someone else mentioned, you are most likely responsible for your guests’ rooms if they don’t pay. Ask why it’s needed and read your contract closely.
