A little back story. When I purchased my dress I went to a David's bridal in Manhattan. They squeezed me into a size 18. And suggested I get into a 20. A little back story.
When I purchased my dress I went to a David's bridal in Manhattan.
They squeezed me into a size 18. And suggested I get into a 20. I mentioned that I started working out and plan on shedding some weight for the wedding. They said "okay that's good but they can always take it in a size" so me being naive I just went with it.
Well fast foward 3 months later, today I had my dress fitting in the David's bridal in queens. and they had to take it in so much but i didn't give me any shape, I looked like a rectangle. And I'm a plus size girl and very self conscious about my body, plus I added sleeves and a ugly bustle that I didn't not like so the total of the alterstujns came out to 700 and my dress cost a little over 800.
I had a bridezilla moment and started crying and staring that I felt that they tricked me into getting a size 20 so I would have to do all these alterations and pay all this money.
I told them I dont mind paying for a service but having to pay almost the same price for my dress bc it's too big bc they insisted on a certain size was unfair.
So they now said they will exchange my dress from a 20 to a 18. And expected delivery date is June 17. My wedding is July 3.
I'm super nervous, upset and a bunch of negative emotions.
Now I'm nervous that I'll have to be charged extra for rush free and just feel that I was completely uneducated on bridal shopping.
I wish I knew better.

I did DB, did want to rush my purchase so I tried on a size 20 in store, and yea it was larger but honestly it fit fine.
Went back to buy the dress with a different woman and she ordered me a size 18. It still fits but I know I did not tell her to order a size 18. I have well over a year until my wedding and wanted to lose a few pounds for my health anyway, but feeling like I'm forced into losing it is a really crappy feeling! I'll be pissed if they say anything at my fitting.
I feel like majority of women who shopped at DB have similar over priced horror stories.
Unfortunately there isn't a lot of competition, I'll have to think about the cost of alterations. The bustle makes me nervous.

Hi! I feel lost without a dress.
I'm actually thinking if I should just get a different dress altogether.
I'm going to the David's bridal in the city to make sure the 18 fits me good, if not I may just get a new one

Awww I'm sorry! So glad you have a plan, let me know how it goes! I sincerely want to know.
Praying you find a new one, may be cheaper than alterations. Who knows the different store may work with you!
Praying it works out just right for you. Hopefully, it will be a blessing in disguise.

    Thank you so much ❤❤

As a plus size girl I grew up always picking my body apart and now that I've been on a weight loss journey I'm my worst critic

Hoping I like how the 18 looks on me.

This was my other option (the one on the left)

I had the opposite thing happen at David's Bridal- they tried to convince me to get a size that sort of fit but was really tight on my bust, because a dress I liked didn't come the next size up and they said I could lose weight and have it let out a bit. I didn't want to have the hard worry about every little thing I ate for the next 8 months, plus taking it out usually costs more than taking it in, so said no and got a dress I loved the actually fit. I do have to get it taken in a bit since I was between sizes, but found a seamstress who had a flat fee for bridal alterations ($250, when I was told David's Bridal would be probably at least $200 just for hem and bustle) so I'm just making sure I get everything I want done now to get my money's worth.

Oh yes! I love the one on the right!
I have to wear a belt too, since I'm so short waisted.
Trust me... we all pick ourselves apart! I cringe looking at pictures of myself. As women, we try so hard to be perfect.
The one on the right is very flattering! I think I like it better than the first one.
It may be your meant to be. I love your hair I think you should let it flow! It's a shame to hide it. Just my 2 cents worth ❤
2 thumbs up for the second dress. Let me know how it works out.🤞

I'm loosing my mind Haha the one on the right (off shoulder with belt) is my dress
The one without the belt is the one I almost switched it for.

Yes there is such a hard demand for women to have this "perfect" body that it causes those "without the perfect body" to tear ourselves apart.
Especially now with social media standards

I'm so sorry that happened to you! I got my dress on sale at David's bridal for $599 and I chose to do my alterations with them because they alter the dress I chose frequently.. little did I know my alterations were going to be $560 after everything. I paid almost the same for alterations as I did for the dress.

I am not a fan of David's bridal and I am truly sorry for what you are going through. I hope they make it right and do not charge you extra money.

I would ask about free rush delivery. I ordered 1 size only because the sample was a little snug. I plan to loose a few pounds before next April but I don't plan to get it altered at David's Bridal. Hope that all goes well for you.

Dang. Have you already paid for your dress? I would just shop somewhere else- or at least go to a few other David’s bridals to try and find something that fits you perfect off the rack. At this point that’s your best bet.
