HORRIBLE experience at David's Bridal

Lindsey, on January 22, 2017 at 6:42 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 62

Hi everyone! I just wanted to see if anyone else has had a terrible experience at David's Bridal... My associate was EXTREMELY rude and didnt help me at all! I had an appointment, which started 30 mins late, and she was rushing me to finish early! She even told me at one point that she "almost quits every bridal season." Wtf?! All the dresses I pulled were dresses I found and pulled myself. She never once offered to help me un-bag or re-bag the dresses after trying them on, never offered to find another dress for me... Just ridiculous! I had no idea what style of dress I wanted, and Im not up-to-date on all of the dress lingo and terms... BUT luckily my MOH pulled a beautiful dress that I ended up buying. If I hadn't loved the dress SO MUCH, I would have left and never came back.... TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!

I hear db is very hit or miss depending on your location. I have heard nothing but horrible things about the one local to me. But lots of ladies here have had wonderful experiences. Try a smaller local shop!

ETA: sorry didn't see the sentence where you said you found a dress! That's awesome! Post pics! Sorry about your bad experience

I had appointments at five different bridals shops and Davids was the WORST! I had literally almost the same exact experience as you and to too it off I was thoroughly unimpressed with how little a selection they had. They were all pretty much cookie cutter dresses.

David’s bridal isn't a service type salon. You are expected to do your research and come with either ven#s or a full idea of what you want. Those associates are not paid well enough or well staffed enough to care the way another salon or boutique will..

it's very surprising I know I had the same situation.

If you are looking for a cost effective dress that's something you unfortunately have to be willing to endure.

Glad you found a dress. Congrats!

If you go to DB it's best to go during the week when they aren't busy weekends are crazy, but I wasn't impressed with their selections there I'll be going to smaller boutiques

I'm so sorry you had such a bad experience. From what I've heard, it's hit or miss at David's Bridal depending on the location. I actually just went there today and had a great experience! But look at the bright side, at least you found a dress today!!

We just went yesterday to look at BM dresses. Our consultant/experience was horrible. First of all, she crammed 3 of my bridesmaids into 1.5 dressing rooms. I say 1.5 because they ended up rushing 2 of my girls out of the room because a bride was coming in for an appointment. She couldn't answer any of our questions, you would have thought it was her first day on the job - I could have done a better job blindfolded. She asked my BMs for their sizes about 50 times, but continued to pull dresses that were no where near the correct size. I picked David's because I have 2 plus size BM's and I THOUGHT they had a wide variety of sizes and they had the color dress I wanted, but no. She pulled size 10 dresses for my plus size ladies, making them feel like shit because nothing she brought them fit. I was so mad. Luckily, with a group effort, we found dresses for all my girls. However, she then had no idea how to take correct measurements and had to ask someone else for assistance. We should have just walked out, but at that point we were just thrilled to have found dresses. They will NOT be using David's for alterations. I am SO glad I got my dress from a small boutique. I was horrified with the entire experience.

I agree, David's is a place where you do your research before you come in. It's so frustrating. I've been in situations there where the girls are pressured into buying a dress, and it's not the one they end up wanting. I'm sorry you had such a crummy experience. Thank goodness for you MOH and congrats on a finding a dress! Post pics!

What a bummer you had a negative experience but glad you found your dress! My experience at DB was average but that's what I expected. If you want the "experience" boutiques and smaller shops are the way to go!

I had a similar experience but it was at an Alfred Angelo store and it was from the store manager. Passed a DB on the way home (during the week at like 4pm) with no cars in the parking lot. Didn't have an appointment but figured since no cars wouldn't be an issue. Walked in to an empty store with three girls working. They didn't even want to let me look. Kept saying if I found something I probably wouldn't be able to try it on since I didn't have appointment. My mom came in a few minutes after me and starting looking a dresses for her. They were all over her asking her if she wanted to try anything on or did she need any help. No one approached me. Needless to say we left.

Many boutiques have gone out of business because people don't want to pay for the service that goes with the sale. And here we are. I can also get nice waistcoats and dress shirts / trousers at Burlington Coat Factory, but good luck getting help there. If I want to pay more at a custom mens' shop, I get personalized attention. David's is just that.

I actually ended up getting my wedding dress from DB, went on a Tuesday night on a whim and it was dead. I had a really great 'stylist' who was so attentive and sweet and really tried to feel out what I was looking for, she let me try on dresses for 3 hrs. I chose a few dresses to try on but ultimately she chose "my dress". I just went back there yesterday and had a totally different experience. Took 7/8 bridesmaids to try dresses on and it was SO CROWDED. All 7 of them had to share 1 room! My stylist was nice (different girl from when I got my wedding dress bc she had moved out of state) and it wasn't her fault but she was working with other parties and would disappear for long periods of time which really held us up if we needed a different style, size etc. The thing that gets me is you have to make an appt to go and try on dresses and when you call to make the appt they ask you a million questions about who's trying on dresses, how many people, blah blah blah so why are they SO overbooked on the weekends?

It really depends on the associate you are assigned. I went to one DB close to my parents home in Ohio. The associate just wasn't helpful. She didn't know how to pin dresses to my body. She was new which she did admit. I went to another DB close to my home and loved the associate who helped me. She knew exactly what she was doing and really help me get an understanding of the dress types I liked.

I had an awful experience at David's. I ended up walking out. And the woman I had an appointment with didn't even notice because she was helping another woman find a dress ( not a wedding dress). I went in freshly engaged and just looking to try on different styles to see how they fit. I was told I was anything from a size 4 to 10. She didn't measure me or anything. Also told me I couldn't carry my own gowns back, but when I saw one is liked and I was waiting around for a while, I finally just did. Awful experience. I don't blame the associate. She was double booked and that's not her fault. I think it would be good if you knew going in exactly the dress u wanted and just needed to try it on.

Oh so sorry for your experience I think it depends on the location and person. I've had a similar experience at a DB in CA and In NV. I ended up leaving on store because I was about to get all out of character with the consultant. I ended up giving it another try with a different on because I saw a dress I had to have and ended up having a awesome experience with the consultant and found my dress.

I had a similar experience. My person was helping me and another person at the same time. I came with a list of 10 dresses I wanted to see. They only had 2. She didn't offer to show me any other dresses. I was alone and I had to chase her down to get her to help me zip my dresses up. I pulled multiple dresses myself and tried them on. I actually felt so disappointed I almost cried on my way home. I already had a hard time dress shopping on my own and after the shitty experience there I never wanted to go dress shopping again.

I ended up buying my dress from DB online. Going in person did help me narrow down my size in the designer that I wanted.

Which location were you at? I'm in NYC and the Queens location was AWFUL. I never wanted to go back, but my BMs were set on a few dresses they liked so we went to the Manhattan location and it was like night and day. Such an incredible experience there. Sorry you had a terrible one, but congrats on your dress!

Definitely a hit or miss place! All 3 locations in my area are horrible! I wouldn't go there looking for much help. Sad but the service isn't that great.

Last year I went with my FSIL to get bridesmaids dresses for her wedding. It was awful. They didn't want to help. She went back another day and picked them out because the day we went we got no help. When I went back to get sized I made an appointment and they canceled it and told me I didn't need an appointment to be sized. When I showed up they told me I couldn't be sized without an appointment and were rude to me. I explained that I had an appointment and they canceled it "because appointments were only for picking out dresses" so they stuck me in a dressing room and forgot about me. It was awful. I finally got to try on the dress to see which size I needed but needless to say when it was time for me to get dresses we didn't even bother going there.

Blame the store. i used to work at a davids bridal where i only assisted with bridesmaids but the issue is especially on a Saturday you are only assigned two rooms so that means if i am working with two brides and they have 6 girls each the girls have to share a room and i am working with at least 14 people at one time and if there is a walk in they will allow me a room across the dang place to use for another bride they threw at me and i am suppose to cater to everyone and make them happy, it is not a easy job at all and i never had issues but i also tried to let my brides know up front that if they come on a Saturday it is best you dont bring a lot of people. sorry you had a bad experience my suggestion if you go back as for their top consultant (remember talk to the manager) you will have a better experience

I went on a Sunday (made my appointment for right when they opened) and the associate I had was wonderful! I mean, the manager that stepped in to ring me up was not the brightest bulb in the box, as after I spelled my name for her 5 damn times she still spelled it wrong and I almost wasn't able to pick up my dress because of that since I had no clue how she spelt my name. I do agree, DB is very hit or miss. I've heard both horror stories and good ones. I'm glad you found your dress though!
