Honeymoon Wishes!?

FutureMrs.Moore, on February 10, 2017 at 7:09 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 37

This is not the first time, But actually the 3rd time we attended a wedding. Instead of a traditional Registry. Couples send out Honeymoon Wishes or funds? FH and I is debating if we should do the same and I'm wondering what's everyone's input here? Thanks ladies! P.S the uploaded photo is actual honeymoon shower that I'm about to attend on Sunday.

Asking for money is any form is extremely rude and tacky.

I wouldn't suggest it it comes across as rude to ask for money. Have a normal shower , dont register or have a small one and people will understand you want money they dont need to feel obligated to fund your honeymoon

No, it's rude and tacky to flat out ask people to pay for your honeymoon. I can't afford a vacation, why should I pay for yours!

I don't know how you have four stars and don't know the answer to this question by now.

Why would you ask people to pay for your sex vacation?

This is tacky. I'm not paying for someone else to go on an unnecessary vacation.

I don't like this. I think it is tacky. Especially in the photo you posted it is making me think about how I am helping to fund a trip to Italy when I can't afford one myself. Don't register and people will give you cash anyway. You can do a small registry for a shower if you are having one and only mention it on the shower invites.

So do you go to this shower and they have a basket where you put your cash? Or do you have to sit there and watch them open card after card? Either way it sounds not only really boring, but super rude too.

What is the shower for? For people to make it rain cash on the wedding couple? How weird.

@mrspotts I'm allowed to say that; it doesn't violate CG's.

You cannot tell me how to post.

And yes generally people do treat and think of the honeymoon as a "sex vacation." So I'm not sure why I need to stop referring to it that way.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: just because your friends jump off a bridge, that doesn't mean you have to do it too.

Does anyone else think of a game show when these posts come up?

A honeymoon is definitely a sex vacation. That's literally the traditional purpose of a honeymoon and you can't tell people how to post @Mrs.Potts

What the fuck would a honeymoon shower entail? Opening envelopes of money and throwing shade at the people who give the least?

Maybe it's just me, but I would never attend a shower like this.

@mrspotts it's literally the meaning of the word "Honeymoon" :

"The etymology of the word comes from the Old English “hony moone.” Hony, a reference to honey, refers to the “indefinite period of tenderness and pleasure experienced by a newly wed couple," and how sweet the new marriage is. Moone, meanwhile, refers to the fleeting amount of time that sweetness would last. While honeymoon has a positive connotation today, it was first used as a term to warn newlyweds about waning love."

Where do people get the idea that a honeymoon is /not/ a sex vacation? Of course it is. That's literally the point of it. Sure, you don't stay shacked up the whole time, but I dare say you're still having copious amounts of sex. Wasn't part of the original purpose to "consummate the marriage"?

Idk, I don't get why calling it what it is makes people uncomfortable. Calling it a sex vacation is in no way demeaning or rude; it's true. And I don't think you have a reason to be ashamed of that. ETA: Though you still don't ask people to pay for it.

OMG and here Joe and I waited three effing years for our Italy trip. What was I thinking?

I would get them a pizza stone or some such thing, especially if they are not registered for one.
