Honeymoon: Italy vs. Hawaii

Anna, on December 30, 2019 at 10:04 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 6

My fiancé and I were originally set on Italy for our honeymoon in August 2020. We are looking at about 18 days.
My concern is that if going to Italy we kind of want to see it all and were planning an itinerary for Rome-Tuscany (Florence, Cinque Terre), and a lot of the Amalfi Coast. I am worried it will be to much go-go-go after having a large wedding (250) and being busy visiting with all our international guests (30+). I know I will be stressed out and I worry I'll feel like I need a vacation after the vacation, lol. However I know it will be super romantic and we will have incredible food.

We are also now looking into Hawaii. I like the beach lifestyle a lot but my fiancé prefers a more exploratory vacation so I feel it could be a good balance for us. We would look at doing 2-3 islands (5 days on each).

These are our top 2 bucket list places so we will travel to each regardless- just a matter of which one is best for the honeymoon.

Anyone been to both (or 1) and have any thoughts? I know it's like comparing apples to oranges but I still wanted to gather some opinions. Thanks in advance!

We've booked ours for Italy in September 2020 for Rome and Tuscany. Italy itself could be 3-4 trips so I wouldn't try to pack everything into your honeymoon. I would love to do the Amalfi Coast/Naples/Venice/Sicily, etc. but those will all have to be other trips. If you decide on Italy, I would suggest sticking with one region and planning your trip that way.

Have you also talked to a travel agent? we booked through one and he found some amazing villas and castles for us to stay in and some amazing experiences for us to do (cooking classes/tours).

I did both before as vacations except for Italy it was moreso one of the countries I went to so it was five countries in 2.5 weeks rather than me touring around Italy and it did feel very go go go and tiring. For my Hawaii trip I only did two islands so was much more relaxed. You cannot beat both - either one would be one of the most amazing experiences. I'd go with what you think is more relaxing.

Italy will be extremely go-go-go. But any trip can be that way. I suggest saving Italy for when you and your partner can put all your energy into the trip.

I’ve been to Italy and Hawaii. Italy will feel very go go go unless you condense your travel to a few cities so you can enjoy the local life more. Hawaii is very relaxing even if you’re jumping from island to island, every island differs and can offer different vibes.

My fiancé and I actually had the same dilemma. He wanted to go to Greece for the exploring and I wanted to relax on the beach (I was insisting on the Caribbean). We decided to do Hawaii so we can enjoy both! I think it’s a great compromise so you can each enjoy your honeymoon.

I’ve been to both (and already had our wedding) and think Hawaii has plenty of fun adventure but a lot more much-needed relaxation. Hawaii! 🏝
