Honest Opinions Please. BM Dresses!

Macie, on February 10, 2014 at 6:15 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 43

So, I'm really stuck on the idea of having gold or light gold sequin bridesmaid dresses! I saw it on Pinterest and fell in love. I am not looking for a tacky stand out color or shiny-ness if that makes any sense at all. My colors are pinks and light golds. So I have been scouring the web looking for longer, gold, sequin dresses that could be used as BM dresses. I found one that is actually reasonably priced and I think is really pretty. I'm of course going to order it and check the quality and make sure the color is correct before the BM's purchase it. I just wanted to get a second opinion because my MOH is not really liking the idea of the sequins and she isn't too fond of the dress I picked out. Do you think this dress would look tacky? We are having an outdoor ceremony in the mountains. I've also attached a picture of our ceremony venue. What do you think? Yay or nay on the sequins?

I LOVE sequined bridesmaid dresses but make sure that your dress is over-the-top or at least just as stand-out and formal so you don't look casual at your own event Smiley smile

Is it a day time wedding or evening?

I think they would be ok if it was a very formal wedding. If it's not black-tie, the sequins might look out of place.

I am wanting the ceremony to be a little before sunset if everything works out time wise. If not, the ceremony will not place before 3 pm. So it will be most likely an evening wedding.

    I don't think it's tacky at all!

I guess you could let the MOH make other suggestions, but if she doesn't have suggestions then go with this one.

I love sequins, but as of now decided against them for my MOH because sequins can sometimes light up like a disco ball and that was a little too much even for other the top me.

I'd prefer if everyone's eyes didn't keep going the the sparkle of my MOH's dress during the wedding Smiley winking

I like the dresses. Here are a couple of my thoughts.

    1. How will they look in the pictures.

    2. Like people said could the dresses out shine you.

    3. I know people should say the MOH should suck it up and she probably would but do you really want them to be uncomfortable all day. That might show in pictures too. I just really wanted my BM and MOH to feel comfortable so they would get out and dance. PS I was in dance and work a lot of sequins and they can be very uncomfortable around the armpits and arms from rubbing against them.

Ultimately it is your decision and they are pretty dresses. If they fit into what you are trying to achieve on your wedding day. Also if you get it and don't like it.

They are very classy, not tacky at all, but I would take Almost Mrs. King's advice and make certain that they don't outshine your dress. All eyes should be on you, not on the bridesmaids.

It's really pretty. It might be too fancy for an outdoor mountain wedding though. Not a tacky dress though...it's very nice.

I love the dress, but I do think it will be out of place at an outdoor in-the-mountains wedding. Unless it's a formal event? I think it would be gorgeous and fit well at a black tie event.

I was just going to say what Chels Ann mentioned. When we were shopping for dresses, my MOH put on a dress that was sequin on top. A totally random sample but we had her throw it on just to check her size. The first thing she said to me after she took it off was, "I'm so glad our dresses don't have sequins on them because that was super irritating to my arms."

I think the dress you showed is beautiful but I would definitely have your girls try on a dress with a sequin top at least to see how it feels. It may not be worth it for your girls to be miserable all night.

I like them. I want something blingly cause my whole bodice is going to be blinged out but if you're not blingly I wouldn't do it. Tell MOH what you're looking for and have her come up with some suggestions.

The dresses are pretty but definitely agree with others - a few things to keep in mind - your girls will need to love their dress to look good in pics....sequins can hurt or be itchy on sensitive skin areas like arms....and please please make sure sequins are not going to take eyes off you that day....you dont wanna compete....you are the shining spotlight that day!! Smiley smile

All Ivan think of is my old dance costumes and how terribly uncomfortable they were around my under arms. Also, they look a bit formal for your venue. But they are really pretty. What about a gold glitter bodice and and a flowy chiffon bottom!

I wanted to do the same thing because I loved the look too! Our colors are rose gold & gold, peach and mint green. I had some skeptics on the dress idea too but I ended up not going with that idea because I wanted to make sure they got a dress that they would feel comfortable in since they are paying for the dresses. My girls are made of different shapes and sizes. I also was worried my lace ivory/amaretto dress would not match. But it was a good clash idea since we have a rustic elegance theme at a mansion.

Thanks for everyone's input! I am going to order the dress and let them all try it on and give me their opinions. I completely agree that my girls should be having as much fun as I am on my big day! I would hate to cause them pain because I have been a BM in weddings and have been SO uncomfortable because of what I had to wear at times. So I will order it and let them try it on and see if they like the fabric, etc. and go from there!
