Holiday weekend wedding date

Briana, on January 9, 2020 at 7:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 10
Hi all!
My fiancé and I are in the final stages of deciding our wedding date and have narrowed it down to two days on consecutive weekends. The first one falls on Memorial Day weekend and the other one the next weekend. We’re worried about people not being able to show up the first date due to travel plans they may make as it is a popular weekend to travel, and worried that people may struggle to get the other day off from work because of the previous holiday weekend. Does anyone have any advice/suggestions as to which we should go with? Any help would be greatly appreciated Smiley smile

We are going to a wedding on Memorial Day weekend. I would pick Memorial Day because it will be harder for guests to get off work the following weekend since they were just off for the holiday. My husband was a little upset about it because it is out of state and rather than enjoying our holiday off we are driving to another state. It's his friend's wedding so I didn't want to hear him complain. Wasn't sure at first if we were attending since it is far away and the friend canceled his plans to attend our wedding last minute, but in his defense his residency took him to Texas the week of our wedding.

We got married 6/2 last year (the weekend after Memorial Day) and had no problems with people not being able to get there due to the holiday being the previous weekend. The only issue we had with people not being able to attend was due to some graduations being that weekend! But that’ll be the case for any weekend in May or June, really.

I would definitely recommend not doing Memorial Day weekend, since traffic is usually bad everywhere that weekend, and also airfare will be extremely expensive (and flights will be unreliable) if you have guests flying in!

So many people already take off Memorial Day weekend that I would do it then. The following weekend may be tougher if people have already been off. If you haven’t already I would get save the dates out ASAP since it’s a holiday weekend.

I'm getting married on 5/24 of this year which is the day before Memorial Day. So far no one has complained about the date! I think it's nice that everyone has a day after to recover and travel back from where they live. I would recommend booking everything far in advance if you are planning a wedding in a popular area because everything tends to get booked early for Memorial Day weekend.

My FH and I really wanted to do ours on 4th of July. However, we didnt want family to struggle to take the time off work and struggle because of the holiday. Also vendors charge double because of you having an employee work on a holiday that normally they have off. just a heads up.

I vote holiday weekend! As long as you give your guests more notice (i.e. making sure to send a save the date and sending it a little earlier than usual) guests should have no problems planning to attend! I love holiday weekend wedding because you get an extra day to rest and relax after the wedding!

You’re planning for 2022 I see, so I would say go with Memorial Day weekend! you are correct, it will be easier for most guests to attend. I would announce and spread word as early as you can, and send out save the dates a little earlier than the usual timeline in order to make sure guests are aware and reminded ahead of time and hopefully don’t make plans for then!

My sister got married Labor Day weekend and it was actually perfect because people have that Monday off.

People will plan for the wedding far before they make plans! Just send invites out early
