Holiday weekend wedding date...terrible idea?

Marissa, on August 17, 2017 at 8:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

We're looking to do a July 6th wedding on the Saturday after 4th of July (lands on Thursday). About 3/4ths of the guests live out of town so we thought if they have to travel they could do so on the Friday and likely have work already off from the 4th/won't have to burn a vacation day. Everything I've read says not to do a wedding on a holiday weekend... thoughts?! Would you be annoyed by this or welcome the idea to not have to take a day off for travel. Thanks!

I'd be fine with it. But I also think July 4th is a big family holiday weekend and some people always doing annual gatherings. Why don't you ask around to some guests and see what'd they'd prefer and kinda get an idea from the important people you want there...then decide? That's what we did with ours!

We have a NYE wedding this year and are excited about it!

ETA: my wedding is a holiday weekend! MLK weekend- but no one really celebrates that, haha

Everything you've read... curious what you have been reading. Ours is Easter weekend. Everyone thinks that is the best decision ever

I would go, but my work only gives the 4th off so I'd have to take a vacation day the 5th. Not sure how many places give the Friday off.

I'm much like H. It's a big family day for us. I agree with PP, talk to your VIPS and get their thoughts.

I prefer weddings to be on long non-major holiday weekends! I would love a fourth wedding! As long as it is inside. And federal government doesn't give the fifth off.

Depends on your crowd and the holiday. A July 4 weekend wedding would work wonderfully in my family, since we don't usually have major plans. On the other hand, a PP suggested an Easter weekend wedding...which would never fly in my family.

I'd poll your VIPs and then go from there.

I would go, but then again, I'm a teacher and have the summer off.

If I worked a regular, year-round job, I think I'd be a little annoyed because costs to travel are higher, and I'd rather choose where I want to go on my vacation and have all of those days off utilized for my own vacation, but then again, people can always decline. Once again, doesn't apply to me because I don't work all year, but some might feel that way?

Do what works best for you and the ones closest to you.

I don't like holiday weekend weddings, and know a lot of people who have annual stuff on holidays (family trip to the lake, that kind of thing).

I don't mind holiday weekend weddings. But, if you do this send Save the Dates super early. Many people take vacations around this time (self included!)

We got married July 4th weekend and my DH arranges for fireworks every year no matter where we are Smiley winking

We had a small wedding and all guests were local so that helped.

My wedding will be Dec 23 so close to Christmas. But most of the family are local. No more than 40 min drive. Hopefully no snow though!
