His & her drinks

Lauren, on November 14, 2019 at 9:53 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 18
We’re thinking of doing his and her drinks for happy hour. Did y’all truly choose your favorite drinks? Or drinks you thought everyone would like? His go to drink is a rum and coke and mine is a gin and tonic. I’m not sure if everyone will like mine. We’re having an open bar with wine and beer for sure and maybe just these two liquor options. Thoughts??

We didn’t chose our favorites, we chose based on what our guests would like.

Our package comes with 2 signature drinks. My favorite drink is just champagne and his is Stella 🤦🏼‍♀️ What I think we are going to do is have a cocktail that has some champagne in it , but also vodka or something else. And my fiancé does like gin so we’ll figure something out to incorporate into a cocktail people will like. Luckily we are in an area where craft cocktails are really popular so we’ll have two unique and fun drinks that have our personality in them as well even through they’re not our go to drinks

We decided the best route was to go with one light liquor and one dark. We’re doing a Blushing Bride (champagne, strawberry vodka, cranberry) and a Jack and Coke.

    Hey there, Lauren!

You don’t have to pick your favorite drink, rather something you think your guests will enjoy!

Perhaps you could do two cocktails, one with rum and one with gin incorporated?

We chose our favorites as our signature drinks. His was Jack & coke and mine was vodka seltzer with 2 limes. I think open beer and wine and your 2 favorite drinks is plenty of options!

How does this work? Do they just add 2 drinks and say it's "Bride and Groom" Choice or do they typically offer that as a "discount" etc?

I think you can go in either direction, but it's nice to think of your guests and choose a popular/common drink. Your two choices are basic (I mean this in a good way here!) and will be appealing to a large majority.

I don't care for sweet drinks so I usually skip any signature drinks. I feel like they are usually chosen for their cutesy names, colors, and/or theme and not for actual drinkability.

So my choice of beverage is also gin. He doesn't even drink liquor because he doesn't know when to stop and ends up feeling awful the next day. The vendor we're using recommended "his" (we went with crown and coke because it's popular), "hers" (french 75 to get my gin fix), and "ours" (grapefruit rose and vodka because the majority of liquor drinkers like whiskey or vodka). I'll have bigger quantities of the ingredients to make "his" and "ours" because those will be more requested. We will also have beer and a house red/white. It's your wedding. Do what makes YOU happy!

This is typically done to cut down on the cost of having a full open bar. Instead of having to stock every kind of liquor/mixer, you choose a "his" and "hers" so the guests only have those two options.

We’re having an open beer, wine, and liquor bar and we’re doing his and hers drinks. Our drinks are our go to drinks when we go to the bar we met at. His is jack and coke mine is vodka and pink lemonade. If people don’t want them, I honestly don’t care. Luckily they have other choices anyway. But even if we only had beer and wine with the two specialty drinks and no body wanted them it wouldn’t phase me. My venue doesn’t have a corking fee or anything and it’s just a flat rate per person whether they drink or not so it’s all the same to me. I say pick something you know you’re going to drink because it’s your day!

Also if anyone is upset because they don’t like the alcohol options then they’re obviously only there for the free alcohol and not to celebrate you and your fhs new beginning so 🤷🏼‍♀️

Our package only had one signature drink. We chose a remake of Applebee’s bourbon and berries 😂 I shamelessly love Applebee’s but it had a nice strong bourbon in it while still being sweet. We got a lot of compliments on it.

I LOVE gin and tonics and they are my go-tos at weddings.

You can pick whatever you want as your signature drinks. We chose signature drinks where the alcohol and mixers could be combined to make other common drinks - FH is in charge of alcohol but I think we landed on a signature gin and tonic and whiskey ginger (actually, FH is still experimenting with new combos weekly, but that's what we proposed to our bartending service for our contract). Some liquors like vodka and rum are used to make a lot of different common drinks, whereas something like tequila is a bit more limited. Our wedding is in NH so we are in charge of buying our own alcohol for the event so keeping it simple while still having options was important. I think we are just getting gin, whiskey, and vodka (plus beer and wine) and tonic water and ginger beer as mixers and with that and some select garnishes our guests can easily order a gin and tonic, vodka tonic, moscow mule, whiskey ginger (which they can add simple syrup to to make it more similar to a dark and stormy), vodka mojito, etc so we have a few options that use the same ingredients but still appeal to different tastes. You can also stick to simple signature drinks but get creative with simple syrups for more options.

I think either way is fun, his/ hers is a fun personal touch.
We did a French 75 for mine and an old fashioned for his ... nothing fancy but everyone like the options. I found a really amazing bottle of artisan butters for the old fashioned they were so good.

    We are choosing our favorites:

    - Rocky Mountain Mule (basically a Moscow mule but with vodka from Colorado)

    - Redneck Dr. Pepper (DP with Captain Morgan)
