Hiring a wait staff

AlmostMrsJ, on June 30, 2013 at 7:58 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hey everyone! My FH and I have been discussing food/catering options for our 5/24/14 wedding. Budget is tight so were thinking about a BBQ reception with either sides from one of our fav BBQ places or maybe have family do them ahead of time. Anywho-my question: does anyone have experience hiring just a wait staff to keep the buffet stocked and warm, etc? How do you find just the people to help man our buffet without hiring a full-swing caterer? Obviously those who work or caterers will only want to work/serve their own food. Are there separate businesses with staff for hire, or maybe college students entering into a hospitality/catering field, etc, etc? Do you have any other suggestions? Wedding near Charlottesville, va. Thanks!

I would hire a high school student on summer break or a college student, a ton of people are looking for a buck out there and would be willing to do something like that!! Put an add in the paper if that is an option!

I hired one of my coworkers. He used to own a restaurant and did catering all the time. If you know someone who just likes cooking you may be in luck! Smiley smile

We will probably pay some of FSIL's friends (recent high school grads) to keep the food replenished.

When we were considering going that route, we were going to hire some of my BFF's son's friends (early 20's). Just make sure whoever you hire is dependable. Smiley winking

We hired people from our church who we have worked with on dinners before. They worked out great. Or go to a school home ec class?
