hippie themed wedding - need help/ideas

ladyoflore, on January 19, 2009 at 8:45 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

We are having our wedding at a 'hippie' campground (Nelson Ledges Quarry Park - Ohio) and then having a 'hippie' themed reception a few weeks later. Ideas of favors, decorations, cake, what to wear . . . etc. also, we think we want to do 'ankle bells' (anklet that has small bells all the way around) but somehow attach a small heart shaped dog-tag, personalized with our names/date - to each one - for all those that come to the wedding (we need to find them/cheap). thoughts? Ideas? Suggestions? websites? Please, any and all thoughts are welcome! Thank you so much!

Your wedding sounds like a lot of fun. My suggestion is to carry your theme from your invitations all the way through the reception. Check out a hippie themed invitation at http://www.mygatsby.com/product.jsp?ProductID=413232.

A vintage wedding dress would look very classic and beautiful if that's your style. Your bridal party can wear short dresses with headbands that match their attire for a "hippie" look. Since your having an outside wedding, small bouquets can do the trick tied with some ribbon to bring the entire look together.

Be creative with your wedding cake. Something funky and unexpected would be a VW Punch Buggy.

Consider the car as a groom's cake and do a traditional wedding cake covered with flowers, peace and love signs if you opt for a more traditional cake.

Have fun planning your wedding. I hope the suggestions above will help kick start your planning process.

Http:www/orientaltrading.com has a bunch of Hippie items that might help you add to decor and might find some favors there that can fit into your budget. Your wedding sounds like a great theme. Please let me know how it works out and what ideas are given to you.

If I'm not mistaken, in the movie "Runaway Bride" with Julia Roberts, one of her weddings is a hippie wedding. I think a dress like that would be perfect!

How fun! I am a brand new vendor and I cater to indiviuality. The heart shaped dog tags are not shown on my website, but definitely something I can help you with. We can discuss any other ideas that you have too. Please email me - *********@********************.***. As you can imagine, it is nearly impossible to include all the different things that people can think of. My motto is if you can dream it we can make it.

You'll want to have lots of bright colors, flowers, and flowing fabrics. And it is a good idea to carry your theme all through out the wedding.

Here is a site that may offer inspiration and insight to the era:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1960s

I suggest asking your guests to leave cell phones in the car, ask them to bring guitars, put out some bongos and conga drums, other instruments to encourage creative music and dance sessions.

You might pull quotes (for your table tops) from the various great minds of the time that speak to peace and love - remind everyone what your people your age were doing and thinking back then during the Vietnam War. Being a Hippy was much more than a fashion statement.

Oh you would go crazy for the Hippieesque items we have! LOL

Take a look at the summer solstice wedding we did that will be featured in Florist Review magazine in March. It won for BEST ceremony setting in their Picture Perfect Weddings competition for all of last year!

    www.suzannemsmithdesigns.com

our signature ribbon poles and daisy tops are hippie with an elegant twist!

We also have amazing peace symbol favors on our FAVORS link, contact me by e-mail and I will send you a Coupon code for 10% off!

As an Old Hippie myself, LOL. I think its all about the natural elements, lots of festive ribbons, flowers, tie dye and Pops of flowers, Gebera and Daisy Mums are a perfect option with their flower power punch.

Halos of flowers to wear in your hair, or a hat with flowers is authentic.

    Congratulations on your engagement!

Since you are planning a wedding and honeymoon, my suggestion would be to visit a great website, AGreatAffair.com and create a wedding and honeymoon registry today.

AGreatAffair.com is an on-line cash gift registry that allows couples to register for anything, including a honeymoon, paying off loans, a down payment for a home, or traditional gifts like china or furnishings. You can even register for wedding expenses… Once more, AGreatAffair.com is created in a way that is tasteful and fun for the wedding couple, and where it is personal for guests who buy gift segments toward particular gifts rather than writing a check. You, as the couple, ultimately get cash. If you wish, you may also get a complimentary elegant web page (including RSVP function, guest book, etc).

Once again, congratulations and happy planning!
