Hindu wedding with divorced parents

a1234, on May 11, 2015 at 10:13 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5

Hey everyone!

So my wedding is next year and we're having a traditional Hindu ceremony as my fiance and I are both Hindu. We are not super religious but we'd like to keep the ceremony as traditional as possible. During the ceremony both sets of parents need to be present at the mandap with us in order perform certain rituals. It was brought to my attention recently that since my parents are divorced and my mother is remarried, they may not be able to "give me away" and perform the rituals by my side. Does any one know any details about this? Are there any exceptions? It would break my heart as well as my parents' if they have to sit out on this. Divorce is sort of taboo in the Indian culture so I'm not even sure if the priest would allow it.

I think you need to talk to the priest about this one.

Hi, I recently filmed a Hindu wedding where the grooms was in the same situation. The Priest missed out a few rituals. Towards the end where both families exchange gifts/money envelopes, this was missed out. Most of ceremony was done with only the Bride and groom present at the Mandap. Every priest has their own way of doing things and is probably best to ask the priest who will doing your ceremony. If you require a cinematographer, be sure to check out www.filmartpictures.com.

    Best Wishes
