HELPPP Bustle has too many buttons

Sammybuss, on July 23, 2016 at 12:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

So my dress has 6 layers, all different types of laces & tulle. It's a David Tuterra dress and it's absolutely gorgeous. There are lace details along the bottom of the dress so my seamstress and I thought it would be best to do an American bustle so those details aren't hidden. In order to do this, she sewed 16 buttons along the back of the dress!! 16!!! It looks awful. It's a huge arch of buttons super close together and to me it's a major eyesore. The seamstress said this is the only way to do it bc there are so many layers that need to be brought up. Am I being too picky or should I take my dress to another seamstress?

Take it to another seamstress. I had a lace dress and my seamstress hid the buttons and loops so well it was almost impossible to find in order to bustle.

My seamstress did clear buttons that you couldn't even see! It doesn't hurt to get a second opinion! If you aren't happy with it, take it to someone else to see if they can offer an alternative solution

If you have time, find someone else to take a look. I know that you may need a certain number of buttons, and another expert can let you know if you're stuck with that many. Don't be surprised if the answer is the same! Good luck!

I'm with OKD - My dress was lace, and had 5 (very thin) layers of silk-ish fabric underneath. I had a one point bustle. Literally, one button. I can't see by your photo what your dress looks like, but I find it hard to believe you need 16 buttons.

My dress was VERY lightweight, and was simple, here's a photo for reference. But if I had 5 layers and 1 button, I think you should get a 2nd opinion on the 16..

Ditto pp. find another seamstress. The buttons look REALLY out of place on that dress, since it looks like there weren't any buttons on it to begin with. :/ She should have known better.

She could just as easily have used hooks instead of buttons, smaller/less obvious buttons, or a multitude of other options.

This is the back of the dress before the buttons were added. The buttons she added look so out of place and they are so distracting! They just look stupid. I mean it's a heavy dress so I'm sure it needs more than one button to hold it up but I just feel like it looks terrible the way she did it

I would not be happy with that by any means. Actually I would be so upset about it that I would probably ask for my money back. Did you agree to the 16 buttons before she did it? I say take it to a different seamstress. Sorry that happened to you Smiley sad

No she didn't tell me how many she thought it would take beforehand. She is redoing it with buttons that have beading that kind of match the beading on the dress. But I think even those would be distracting if there's still 16 of them. My last fitting is August 2 and wedding is September 3 so if it still looks terrible I'm going to try to find someone else to fix it. Thanks ladies. I guess I just needed validation that this does look awful and I'm not being a psycho bridezilla :/

Ok - seeing your dress in that 2nd pic, - I can see that you will need more than 1, but 16 seems excessive. I'd be so upset - I hope you find someone else and have good luck!

I would definitely get a second opinion, 16 seems excessive. I hope she isnt making you pay to get them redone.

That is twice as many buttons as mine and I thought I had a lot! Yikes. They told me the buttons would be clear and small. The ones your seamstress used...I can see why you are upset. You aren't being a psycho bride-zilla at all! Good luck!

I agree it looks super weird and I would freak out, too. Take it somewhere else or do a different bustle.

@Sammybus, definitely get a second opinion and no you are not being psycho bridezilla! 16 is a lot of buttons! Hopefully she can so it for less and you can get it sorted.

That is a gorgeous dress! I agree, it looks ridiculous. I'd take it elsewhere to get it fixed. I'd be in tears.

I don't think I can say much that pps haven't said already. Just keep taking deep breaths and telling yourself that it will be okay, there's time to get it fixed, it will be beautiful.
