Help with the Man of Honor!

Anna, on May 4, 2017 at 5:39 AM Posted in Planning 0 16

My bridesmaids carry a traditional bouquet, but I have a Man of Honor (he's basically family). I don't want him to walk down empty-handed. We thought about having him walk with a bridesmaid, or having him maybe walk with our puppy? He's pretty open to anything, except bouquets and he would prefer to not walk with the best man. Any ideas/suggestions?

I am always partial to puppies but I would be afraid that the little cutie would pee on him during the ceremony. Do you have a maid of honor also? They could walk together or just have him walk with a bridesmaid.

No I thought about having one, but I don't yet. I say puppy, but he's like one year old... maybe he could walk with my mom?

Would you still have him stand on the bride side, right? Eventhough it would be an odd number on both sides? And would you have him wear the same as the groomsmen?

    -Sorry, just need ideas/opinions.

Oh yeah I would have him on your side and it's okay to have uneven sides. You'll see that a lot of the brides on WW are doing that. Usually your mom is one of the ones to walk down first. Are you going to want him standing up there the whole time waiting for you and the rest of the bridesmaids?

Puppies are cute, but they also poop. Sometimes without warning. Keep him on your side. I wouldn't have him walk with anything really, but that's just my thought. Are you planning on having him hold your bouquet during the ceremony?

@Anna, I'd just have him walk with his hands empty down the aisle then so he doesn't have to worry about holding/handing off anything. I'd just give him a bout

I'll be having a man and maid of honor as well - FH and my thought is for him to walk down the aisle with the maid of honor and FH's sister who is his best 'person' - he's just the kind of guy who would get a kick out of walking down the aisle with two girls on his arms...

Thanks for the input guys! Also makes me feel better I'm not the only one with a Man OH. My mom doesn't understand the concept and keeps trying to replace him or put him on FH's side but I stand my ground on this one! And I am leaning away from the dog idea- though it's sweet, it really is starting to sound like a logistical nightmare.

The Maid/Matron of Honor usually walks alone right ahead of you or right ahead of RB & FG. So, your Man of Honor can do the same for the processional. For the recessional, he can walk with a BM or by himself -- if he doesn't want to walk with the Best Man.

@Tricia what if he carried the unity cross? Do you think that would look weird?

No Man of Honor but I do have a Bridesman (or whatever you want to call it), he's just wearing a bout. He's going to be walking with one of the groomsmen, all they have to do is walk next to each other - not like they need to link arms or anything. He's wearing the exact same suit that the groomsmen are wearing. I am contemplating buying him a different tie though, he's a bowtie kind if guy and I'm thinking about getting him something with our burgundy color, maybe a paisley or plaid.

My man of honor just had a bout. All our BP walked in to the ceremony alone, and the his best man and my man of honor escorted my one bridesmaid out after the ceremony. It worked
