Help!! Wedding Advice?

Meghan, on June 7, 2019 at 4:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 8
I just recently got engaged, and I’ve never attended a wedding and I have no idea where to start with planning!! Does anyone have any tips? We think we know where we want the wedding, but when is a good time to start scheduling and making things official? The wedding won’t be until 2022.

    Congrats!

decide on a budget and guest list and then venue booking would be the next big thing. you do have a whiles away and usually people do book venues earliest on because some may book up fast or have a discount if you book earlier, even. but you can do some searching before you need to do any venue booking since it is a rather while before your date.

time will fly by so fast from here til now even if it doesn't seem like it.

Congratulations and welcome to Wedding Wire!!

Luckily, you have lots of time. The first step is budget. How much can you afford to spend? How much do you want to spend? Will you and you FH be paying for this yourselves? How much time do you need to save the amount you want?

Once you have all those answers, you can make your guest list. Many venues have space restrictions, or head count restrictions, so it's best to have at least a preliminary number when you start looking at venues. You don't want to pick a venue that has a max capacity of 150, if your list is going to be over 200.

Most of us have then started on booking the major vendors, as most of these book up a year in advance (sometimes longer). Venue, photographer, DJ, catering. Wedding Wire has a good checklist you can look at to keep yourself on track. There are lots of others online as well. Good luck, and happy planning!

I found that some venues won't even book you that far out, but you can still go and tour them! When we toured our venue, the coordinator told us that she wouldn't book 2020 weddings until October.. But you bet that when October rolled around we got our names down early!!

I would say the very first thing you need to do is make a savings plan. When we got engaged, I was just finishing school and wasn't in a full time job yet. If you don't have much savings, it's really difficult to put down payments on things. Figure out how much you can save per month. Then have that hard conversation with parents to see if or how much they think they can contribute considering how much time everyone has to save. Once you have those ballpark numbers it will be much easier to set a budget!

You could also start thinking about color palette and theme for your wedding! That's always fun

I agree with the above. Your wedding is pretty far out, but there is still plenty you can do. Figuring out a budget is crucial 1st step. What you can afford to spend will determine the rest of the items in the list. Then I would recommend talking to your FH and seeing what kind of wedding you want: rustic, fall, themed, colors, Disney? As well as how many people you are thinking of inviting and who will be on the guest list. I think that will help most with finding a venue. Then I think you can start thinking about your dress and with your budget can start deciding how much you want to spend and what styles you would like to try on. Then from there Pinterest and wedding forms usually have good ideas. We got engaged in December, but our wedding isn’t until June 2020 so the long time feels terrible, but it has been great for saving money and being able to pay for everything ourselves without any debt. Congrats!!!
