Help! Tiara or no tiara?

Aubree, on March 23, 2022 at 8:31 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 3 15
So, my sister surprised me by buying a tiara for my wedding. I was originally going back and forth on if I wanted a tiara vs statement earrings or not before she bought it. The best part — it’s ✨non-returnable✨. Unfortunately because of this, I feel like I have to wear it now and I don’t know if it’s the vibe I want. I don’t know what earrings to wear with it or how to style it with my hair which I originally wanted down. Please help!

I’m looking into bridal headbands, and plan to wear my hair down in romantic waves. I think a tiara would look great in a half up half down style or completely down. For example,

But, if you don’t want to wear it on your wedding day, could you wear it for your bridal shower or rehearsal dinner?

It is more of a headband, I guess! I thought about wearing it for the rehearsal or bridal shower so that it still gets used. On top of everything else, our wedding is a traditional Greek Orthodox wedding where we have to wear another set of crowns. I think that it may look really awkward like below. Help! It’s hard to give advice on whether the tiara fits without seeing your dress and vision for your wedding look. In general, I feel like that tiara would look nice with studs or simple drop earrings.
BUT—just because your sister bought it for you and it’s non refundable does not mean you need to wear it. If you truly don’t want it, give it back to her and kindly say it doesn’t work for you and she’s welcome to resell it.

I suppose those details are important 😅 the dress is a simple organza ball gown with a square neck tank straps. I have a cathedral length drop veil. I was going for a modern glam vibe and I think the tiara is too vintage/princessy?

HA! That sounds so gorgeous—I am obsessed with a square neckline! I agree that a tiara doesn’t quite fit that—bridal accessories are so personal. Like PP suggested, you could always wear it at a bach or bridal shower (I bought two bridal headpieces and wore the one I chose not to wear at our wedding to our shower), but if you really don’t want to, you should feel zero guilt giving it back to your sister.

Thank you! I think it’s gorgeous, too. I’m just afraid it’s doesn’t fit the look I’m trying to go for. I think I’ll probably just have to try it on with everything when it gets in.

Good idea! I’m bringing a few options to my final fitting/alterations appointment (tomorrow!). Will you also have the other crown (for the ceremony) then? If not, (and it’s only worn during the ceremony), I don’t think a double crown will look unusual, especially if it’s the same color/metal or only worn for a short time.

The other crown is only worn during the ceremony for maybe 10-15 minutes. It’s definitely not the same metal color. 😅

If you choose to not wear it at your wedding can you wear it to your bridal shower or in engagement photos? you could also wear it at your reception and wear the veil at the ceremony or take some photos with it and some without.

That’s not a bad idea about wearing it for the reception or the shower!! We’ve already had our engagement photos done, so we can’t do that. Thank you!

Yes and you’re not obligated to wear it but maybe you could wear it during the reception

I wore a headband with my veil, but I think your tiara could look very nice with a cathedral veil! If you're that worried, though, that it'll clash with the crown you'll have to wear for the ceremony, you could wear it for the bachelorette party. I honestly wish I'd had a tiara to wear for mine, something else that said "I'm the bride". Then for your wedding itself, maybe once the ceremonial crown is removed, you could switch out your veil for the tiara. There are plenty of things you can do!

You don't have to wear it just because she bought it. It's your wedding, and your look is personal. People shouldn't demand a bride wear things they give them. You can say, "Thank you for the thought, but I don't want to wear a tiara." You could just wear it in some photos, or at the bachelorette party or rehearsal dinner, if you don't want to wear it for the ceremony.
