Help! Small Cherry Blossom Wedding? wp or Diy?

Tanya, on February 28, 2019 at 12:48 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

We're going to Japan and China for our honeymoon (I'm a little OBSESSED with all Asian culture, ESPECIALLY JAPAN!), so I want a zen/asian/eastern/buddhism/japanese/cherryblossom inspired wedding theme! I live in Florida so it's just filled with golf courses, country clubs, and farms wedding venues! I still want to TRY to get some sort of decor to have a hint of that theme. After my research I was thinking mostly of just a cherry blossom wedding, which would be easy to decorate any venue with. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciate it! I'm in the orlando region, so I would like to have a venue around central florida and not like all the way south like Miami.

Also, my wedding is going to be tiny!! Only 12 guests. I only want a ceremony and for reception just a dinner, no dancing, no giant ball room etc. No wedding party, no bridesmaids, etc. Do you guys think I still need a wedding planner? The only reason I can think of having one is for the decoration set up, making a cherry blossom arch etc. But then someone told me wedding planners don't do that at all, they just coordinate. AH as you can see im clueless! My wedding will be spring in 2020, so I still need to find a venue etc. Just any advice, comments, suggestions, constructive criticism will be helpful! Thank you!!!!

Sorry for any typos as I am on my phone!

Love the cherry blossom theme! I definitely would not think you need a wedding planner for such a small reception. It’s true that WPs mostly coordinate vendors, invites, etc and these will be manageable tasks for such a small guest list and a dinner reception. If anything, you could consider a Day of Coordinator to help your day run smoothly, but I honestly don’t think you need that either. I think the decoration help you’re looking for would come from a florist.

What kind of venue are you looking for? Maybe a restaurant with a private room? I think everything else will fall into place once you figure that out.

The theme is super cute! i wouldn’t suggest wasting money on a wedding planner because of how small the guest list is and the time line you have. making the arch i would definitely go with fake flowers (if you’re okay with them!!) they are much cheaper and they won’t crack or break while trying to build... search on youtube to DIY a flower arch. try finding a small hall to rent out or restaurant that has enough space for your decor and guests. good luck!!

I don't think a wedding planner is as necessary as a decorator!

Hey Tanya! Welcome to the WeddingWire community!

With your size of wedding, I don't think you'll need a wedding planner! I would look into hiring a florist to help you create your vision for the cherry blossom theme! I think it'll be so beautiful!

If you like cherry blossoms I would recommend having the wedding in Macon ga since you live in Florida. Or having the photos done in Macon ga. Macon ga has over 100,000 cherry blossom trees and it is really gorgeous there.

I love love your theme. You can find inspiration on Pinterest for ideas on a cherry blossom wedding. We have a lot of Japanese tea gardens in my area (SF, Ca). I saw there is one in Florida but it appears to be too far south (delray beach, FL). I cannot wait to see how it turns out!

Oh and to touch on the wedding planner. I say save your money. They help keep things organized and work with vendors and whatnot. I have a day of coordinator for my wedding and in her contract she does help with putting out decorations and whatnot but even I think that is not necessary for you. Per other posters comments, I’d talk with a florist to put together your arch and other floral arrangements.
