Help me settle a food debate

Sara, on July 14, 2019 at 8:05 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 19
So we’re stuck between two beef options.. steak or pot roast (also offering chicken and a vegetarian option, but those are all set). The caterer will only cook the steak to mid rare, and after serving everyone they’ll circle back around and anyone who wants their meal cooked more can send it back to be brought up to temp. Which I think is ridiculous and annoying (even though I eat my steak mid rare and anything cooked over medium is a waste, but I digress). Our caterer also offers pot roast, which is sooooo good and one of their signature dishes (it’s braised in beer from the brewery where we’re getting married so that’s super cool). I want the pot roast for that reason, but the fam is giving me pushback because they think we should have steak. But I don’t want everyone to have to send their food back because it’s annoying. Ugh, thanks for listening to my rant! Lol

Do the pot roast- going with the steak option will waste everyone's time. If I were a guest I would think it's weird for someone to offer to heat up my food even more.

I would love pot roast as opposed to steak. You don’t HAVE to do anything. It’s your wedding you get to choose 😃

I definitely prefer pot roast over steak. Especially if it's their signature dish and braised in their beer! Everyone will have opinions about everything. You'll never please everyone so follow your instincts.

    1. Do what you want
    2. The specaility dish sounds like the better option
    3. Some guests won't eat reheated steak, it's weird, it's time wasting, it's just silly. Some people might think it's dirty to reheat it.

Pot roast definitely sounds like less of a hassle. I know tons of people who eat it well done (bleh ahah) but that's how they like it

I would go for the pot roast. Not only is it obnoxious to have to send the food back to bring it up to temp, but then the guests are just sitting there, watching everyone around them eat while they wait.

    Pot roast.
I love steak. But sending it back to the kitchen to get cooked more is just ridiculously annoying.

Go with the pot roast. Intentionally ordering a dish you know some people will have to send back isn’t good hosting to me.

Another vote for the pot roast! I think your guests will enjoy it more than having to wait for steaks to be cooked again!

Even just considering the waste of time to back track and offer to cook up the steaks more, I also agree with the pot roast option. You also sound pretty excited talking about it, so I think it’s a great option!

Pot roast for sure! It makes the most sense and will take less time. I love steak too but that seems like a waste of time and money. Plus if it's a signature dish so you know the do it well!!

    Pot roast!
I the lowest I’ll eat my steak is medium. As a guest I’d hate(be rather annoyed) to send back my food, especially if your event is more on the formal side.

Go with the pot roast. Most guests won’t send their meat back and it will go to waste.

I agree with the pot roast. The steak would add confusion to the dinner IMO

They shouldn't even really give this option if they are serving steak. It should be cooked the way they serve it and that's it. I went to a wedding that served filet mignon and they definitely didn't ask us how we wanted it cooked or sent it back. I would say if guests don't like medium rare they should then get the chicken. A wedding isn't a restaurant. I don't like pot roast at all but since you like it and you are leaning towards that, do that. Seems like less of a hassle.

I would go with steak. We are doing a bison roast (so like a prime rib kind of) cooked medium or medium rare. If they don't like that cook, they can have chicken.

I agree about having to send the food back, it's a waste of time and the rest of their food will get cold. You said the pot roast is really good. I'd go with that. Your family should understand. This is your wedding and there are so many things that can go wrong, so pick your battles, this isn't one of them.

I vote the pot roast. I would never send a steak back, and even if I did I would lose interest in it before it came back. Besides that, pot roast is something different for weddings and I think it would be a easy way to make yours stand out.

I know this isn't helpful but you can't go wrong with either! If people are picky with steak I would say go with pot roast.
