Help me decide!! (food)

Michelle, on April 1, 2019 at 6:12 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 20
I have soo many options in my area (south LA) for food! Pasta, pizza, burgers, BBQ, Mexican, sandwiches, literally Cajun food anything, and more. I am at a complete loss on what to serve as a main course! We have our appetizers down which will be mainly served during cocktail hour but still be slightly refreshed throughout the night for people to grab and go whenever they want. My fiancé is no help because he only wants say so in his groomsmen and has left everything else to me lol
I literally have everything down to a T beside food. I also don’t want anything too messy considering it is very kid friendly! Thank you all so much in advance Smiley smile

i apologize for the rambley mess this post is I’m just going crazy over this menu 😂

Unless you’re having a themed wedding, themed venue, or there’s a specific style of food/redtaurant that everyone loves, I would stick with classic chicken, beef, and fish or pasta option.
Also depends on your vibe. Pizza, burgers, or mexican would be found at a relaxed and casual wedding imo.

Pasta or mexican could be very elegant while pizza and bbq could be very casual, depending on your wedding style and your guests lifestyle or how you want it to feel. I would veto sandwhiches and burgers as they can be messy, specific with many different topping options and are very casual using your hands and what not. Hope this helps!

What’s your formality level? You could always do food stations and have a little bit of everything!

I think buffets are a great way to go personally, especially with so many options like you mentioned. Find a caterer you like with a good variety, at your budget, and go from there Smiley smile

Check out some other wedding venues and see what their menus are like and design your menu around that

We found a caterer in budget who will do “minis” of a little of everything so we can cater to all guests, including the kiddos and our few vegan family members as well 🤗

Kid friendly but not messy...sounds like finger foods or foods that don't require sauces, etc.

You could do food stations and have a little bit of everything! I went to one wedding that did late night burgers after the dinner. I thought that was pretty cool. So you could have a burger station, taco station, and maybe a build your own pasta bowl station. I think that would be super neat, regarless of how formal your reception is.

This sounds like a great solution! What will they do "minis" of? What will the selection include?

Veggie and normal burger bites, buffalo chicken poppers, mini hot dogs and corn dogs for the kids, and mini chicken and black bean tacos as like the “main” food and then we have finger food appetizers like fruit kebabs, cheese cubes, sandwiches, and a bunch of other things! We are having a super casual wedding so I wanted something easy for our guests and for it to not feel too formal! ☺️

Do whatever you would enjoy the most (as long as it's within your budget and everything). If you guys love pizza, go for that. If you want to serve sandwiches, do!

Look at your choices like a menu at a restaurant. Which one would you get?

That's what my sister did (she got married in Miami) and it worked out well for her.

If you're keeping it super casual you could have a few different types of food and make stations/bars out of them. We're also doing something super casual (and small) and we're thinking along the lines of a taco/burrito bar (I LOVE mexican) with 2-3 meat options, variety of toppings, rice/beans, etc and maybe a pasta bar with different noodles and sauces. It could be very kid-friendly as well

It depends on the style of wedding you are having. As others have mentioned, a more casual setting would be fine for BBQ, mexican, burgers etc but if you are having a more fancy plated style, I would stick to maybe chicken, fish, steak or a combination of all 3.

We are having a casual wedding, so we are having a buffet of various sliders, sandwiches, salads and bites. Our "cake" will be donut towers and we are having a s'more's bar.

Are you in South Los Angeles or South Louisiana? If in South Los Angeles is it possible to get the name of your caterer I am looking for one to do minis for my cocktail hour.

Oh man, if you don't have to deal with food restrictions, I think you should totally do cajun! I wish we could still eat cajun over here!!!
