Help! Makeup trial gone wrong!

Rachel, on April 15, 2017 at 8:15 PM

I had my makeup trial recently. I asked for natural makeup and left looking like I belonged in a drag show Anyone willing to share more natural, but nice wedding makeup that they were happy with? I'm doing an airbrush trial next week to see if that might be better.

I thought the makeup looked nice. If you didn't like the foundation perhaps ask for a different shade.

We attend drag shows often (went to two just last weekend) and your make-up is nowhere near drag show heaviness! That being said, I'm sure it felt that way to you, especially if you're not used to wearing much on a daily basis! I actually think you look very nice. Maybe a little dark on the eyes if you wanted a more natural look, but with just a few little tweaks I think you've got it!

I think you look beautiful, aside from the sadness and disappointment I can see in your eyes. I agree the color of the foundation looks more yellow than natural. But I think the rest looks very modest.

I do not care for the eyebrows and you need more cheek color. I do like the eye makeup. Smiley smile

Your makeup does look natural to me, of course I don't know what you typically look like. Do you have a makeup inspiration picture you could show the MUA?

I also wear minimal to no makeup on a daily basis. When I talked with my MUA I told her I didn't want to go too heavy and she said we would start light and add where I wanted to.

When you go for your next trial maybe you can try that approach.

I would ask for your brows to be filled in differently (maybe not as big of an arch and different shape?) and maybe try some different lashes since there are various shapes and thicknesses to choose from. These are just suggestions since you're not used to wearing a lot of makeup BUT you do not look like a drag queen--you are very beautiful!

It may seem like a lot if you normally don't wear makeup, but I think it looks great. I really like your eyes.

I actually think it looks really good. But you're right, it doesn't look like you. You're beautiful and there are ways to play up your features without transforming you into someone else. Don't shy away from wearing a fair amount of makeup, though. It will really help you look your best in all your wedding pictures.

I thought you needed moreee makeup, and by that I mean more color on your cheeks

I can see what you mean based on your every picture. I didn't hunk your trial was bad, but I'd suggest a softer brow and a less dramatic lash choice. Foundation undertones can be fixed with a different shade or brand. Good luck!

It actually looks fairly natural for bridal makeup, but I understand that you feel you look so different than you do on a day to day basis. It looks beautiful to me, though. Maybe try a different foundation with an undertone closer to your natural coloring, and toning down the eyebrows and getting a more subtle bronzer/contour color for your cheekbones. You should also opt for a lighter color on your lids (a light and shimmery pink or peach would look more natural and not so dark but will still make your eyes pop) because you have deep set eyes and darker colors will look darker on deep set eyes; you could even skip the eyeliner on your lids entirely, but you definitely need more blush. I really think those changes will make you feel more comfortable and more "you."

Maybe one of these looks would make you feel more naturally you? They have more subtle coloring on the eyelids and cheekbones, and most don't have any eyeliner at all. Very soft with a natural glow. You can see they use soft and shimmery pinks, peaches, purples, and grays, i.e. the softer "nude" colors. The first photo even has coloring similar to your own. I would describe it as "subtle, soft, and romantic" when trying to explain what you want to your MUA.

Personally I think the palette is all wrong for you i would go more this route ...obviously you can adjust these but as far as the tones I think they would be way more flattering

Sometimes natural gets you earth tones browns etc .. try asking for SOFT

This is heavy in the liner department but otherwise I think very flattering for you especially the skin

Your make up looks beautiful, but I can see what you mean by yellow. Airbrushing should help with that or the MUA may need to try a different shade. For someone who normally doesn't wear make up or very little, wedding make up is going to be a dramatic change. I was immediately drawn to your eyes. If you think it's too much have the MUA try more nude colors. That is what I'm going with, but those are the shades that I like best on me. Keep these photos and compare with the airbrush to see which you like better. Good luck.

I agree you look lovely. She went too much on eyebrows and eyeliner. Need a touch of blush and lip color.
