HELP! I have an ivory dress...what color shirts should I have FH and the groomsmen wear?

lindsay, on January 19, 2015 at 11:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 29

What typically will look better...the white shirts or ivory? Does it really matter/can you tell the difference in pictures etc?

What are color shirts are you having the groom/groomsmen wear and what color is your dress?

I think I prefer white on the guys. I also have an ivory dress... The guys will have white shirts.

How about white shirts, with ties to match your girl's dresses (provided that they are wearing ties).

My GM will have black tuxes with ivory shirts. The rep at Men's Warehouse suggested the ivory shirts being that my dress is Ivory. I'm still debating on whether I should change it to white shirts. Ughh... Who would have thought the men's attire would be more difficult than the women.

Following.... was going to ask the same. When I was at a boutique last Saturday with my BM"s and inquired about a cutaway tux jacket and the owner said to make sure we got ivory shirts if my dress was or it would be really obvious, especially in pictures. The other two places didn't mention that at all.

I honestly don't think it matters what colour. Ivory is still a shade of white so it matches everything. If your choosing just between white or ivory, go with white. It will be easier to find.

I'd go with ivory shirts if your dress is ivory. If they wear a bright white shirt the ivory will look dingy next to pure white. That's what we heard at the few places we went to look at suits and it makes sense. My dress is white so the guys will be wearing white shirts

I was wondering the same exact thing! I think white might look ok. It's definitely easier for the guys.

White shirts should be fine for your guys. It could be tricky matching the ivory of the shirts to your dress, and ivory shirt look dingy...

The guys at the suit store will know exactly what to do. If there is an option of ivory shirts than I would get them. The guys wouldn't probably notice either.

Not every ivory is the same, and the ones I looked at looked like they'd been washed a few to many time - that kind of faded, dingy look. Definitely not a fan. Our gents were in an ivory waistcoat and white shirt and it looked fine. My dress was an antique ivory, so with a yellowish tinge.

I definitely do not agree with the comment that Ivory matches everything. I had to make this same decision at mens warehouse and DH refused to wear the ivory bc he hated the color so we went with white and I'm so upset we did. You can 100% tell the difference in pictures and I hate how the colors clash. If you rent from men's warehouse, their white is extremely bright.

My dress was ivory, but just barely. I actually thought it was white til I saw the tag on it. I put my boys in white and I don't think you can tell a difference at all between my dress and their shirts. But had my dress been a more noticeable ivory, I would've put them in ivory as well!

I don't want my dress to look dirty next to him, so as long as it's the right shade of ivory, they'll be wearing ivory.

Without seeing the shirts, I'd say go with ivory. A bright white shirt could look painfully obvious next to an ivory dress. However, I do agree that ivory shirts can look gross, so I'd see if you can get a sample shirt to look at.

My dress was ivory, and my DH wore white shirt and ivory vest/tie. I took a sample from my dress and matched it to the vest at the tux rental place, so it matched perfectly. I did love the crispness of the white shirt, it looks more formal, but the ivory vest pulled it together.

You can tell the difference in photos when a woman wears ivory and the man wears white, or vice versa.

My dress was oyster (brownish grey), with an ivory lace overlay. My husband and the groomsmen wore Ecru colored shirts and they looked perfect! Paired with brown slacks and a brown vest, it made the shirts seem a bit darker which was good since my dress was a bit darker than ivory.

I am wearing Ivory but FH is wearing a white shirt and Ivory Tie. In professional photos, you cant tell the difference. Ivory dresses photograph nearly white. Groomsmen are in white shirts and blue ties to match the ladies.

FH is wearing a shirt to match my dress. The saleslady recommended it, she said sometimes an off-white dress can look dingy compared to a white shirt.
