Help I dyed my hair and it's too dark

The title says it all. The color said Iced Mahogany Dark Brown and looked about my natural color however now that it is drying it looks almost black. REally all I wanted to do is cover the gray for tax season and for a party we will be attending next weekend.

I think at this point I may just pretend I did it on purpose and not worry about it!

For me - the problem is keeping it darker! It will fade! After a few normal washes my dark brown hair color (almost black) lightens and its permanent color. I wouldn't panic or go to the salon just yet and pay money when it will probably go away on its own within the week.

Just give it a couple days and it should fade down a bit. I box dye my own hair and it is always darker than what I want the first 2 or 3 days.

Buy color opps. Usually right at walmart. It will get rid of the dye, its not a bleach it just gets rid of dye

If it is really dark and you don't like it try dish soap. It can be used as a clarifier and should help get rid of some of the color. Ghetto but does the trick - most of the time. This may be a situation where only time or a salon can fix it. Don't try another box color !!! You won't be able to get the results you are looking for. Color will never lift color. What you need is bleach. Don't buy anything over the counter either. They aren't professional and will kill your hair. I don't care what the bottle says. I wish you lived closer because I would have you come in to my salon so I could help you. I just brought a girl from dark brown to brown. Good luck :-)

Leanna my stylist got so expensive and I started DIY'ing the Dye job several years ago. But I thought I was doling a good think by switching brands to a more natural one. At this point I think I am going to leave it be for a few days, if I still am unhappy with it, I will bite the bullett and see what a stylist can do with it. Maybe add some hilights or something to lighten it up.
