*HELP* How to incorporate sports into our wedding??

As a home-grown Michigan girl, and long time Red Wings fan - I absolutely love this!! I think naming your tables something other than numbers will be fine. We're doing the names of places around Detroit and Michigan that we love, instead of numbers for our tables. Most weddings I have been to have a map posted showing where the tables are (even those with numbers), so guest should still be able to find their seats by player name.

You could do: Joe Smith - Yzerman Table, etc.

Another idea - have the picture of each player, and maybe have your fiance write a sentence or two at the bottom explaining who the person is or some memorable Red Wing moment about them. It would a fun way for guests to understand and learn more about their table and his passion.

The sticks when we come into the reception would be cute...I had actually suggested doing that with light sabers since we're coming in to the Star Wars theme!

Bethany - great ideas! I was also thinking that adding a blurb about each player to the tables would be a fun idea! Since only people on his side really know his passion for the team, my family would learn a little something!

A hockey stick as the guest "book"? i know I saw an inspiration pic of a baseball bat, you could change it to hockey.

I like the hockey stick guest "book" idea...but we already have a guest book that I made with our engagement pics. Maybe we could do both?

FH is a pretty big Detroit Red Wings Fan as well. -- They do line-ups at the beginning of the game to announce the 6 guys that will start.

Merfy - I hadn't even thought of Don't Stop Believing but I do know what you're talking about...incorporating that song is a great idea! I don't know that I'd be able to get everyone to sing and dance to it but I could find a way to incorporate it for sure. Shoot, maybe I'll just sing it to FH! haha

My friend and her hubby are HUGE hockey fans (her Red Wings, him Maple Leafs) and they had a hockey theme at their wedding.

They named their tables all after hockey players - they had a picture of the player, along with their name. In order for guests to find where they were sitting, they had a BIG picture frame and the table names as headings, with the guests names under.

Example: Chris Osgood Table

- Joe Smith & guest

- Todd Jones & guest

They also had hockey trivia throughout dinner, and that's how the guests got the bride & groom to kiss (instead of ringing bells, tinging on glasses, etc.)

Another wedding I went to also had a hockey theme to it. They had mini sticks and a mini net with a ball. If you wanted the bride and groom to kiss, you had to go up in front of everyone and try to score a goal.

My FH and I are also incorporating hockey into our wedding (we're both big hockey fans...him Leafs, me Wings) and we will be walking into the reception wearing our favourite teams jerseys with his (and my new) last name on them.

I also plan on having some pictures taken of me in my dress with my hockey gear somehow (I've played hockey since I was 10).

Can you tell we're Canadian?? LOL

Don't think we're having a hockey stick as a guest book

Loving all the ideas ladies! Thank you so much for the input...I now have a lot of great ideas to present to FH that are much better than anything I was coming up with myself! I'll keep you all posted on what we decide to do!
