Help! Destination wedding in Mexico advice!

Melissa, on March 4, 2016 at 1:02 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

Hi everyone! We are looking at have a destination wedding in the Riviera Maya, Mexico with around 50 guests. We are looking for an all-inclusive, family-friendly resort . With so MANY options of resorts and locations, we don't know where to start. Neither of us have ever been to Mexico (We're from Wisconsin) nor have we ever been to destination wedding. We also would like a place that has excursion options available as many of us are active and love the outdoors. Any tips, advice, recommendations?

What part of Mexico would you prefer? East coast/ west coast?

I am a huge fan of the Mayan Riveria (East Coast). You can see the Mayan Ruins, and the beaches are gorgeous. I would recommend not going below a 4 star resort just for quality of the experience especially for your wedding. We love the Iberostar Grand Hotel Paraiso but it might be a bit pricey for your guests as well. Some of my favorite hotel chains are Iberostar, Riu, and Paradisus. They have always been solid options no matter where you are in the Caribbean.

We had our wedding at the Now Jade resort in Riviera Cancun. It was amazing; the backdrop was stunning, the resort was clean and we felt very well taken care of. The resort offers wedding packages to choose from and a dedicated wedding planner. I was so impressed with the care and attention that our coordinator gave to our wedding. We had about 37 people attend the wedding, it was perfect! We also booked a private catamaran trip and apart from the wedding itself, that was my favorite part of the whole trip. We snorkeled and spent time jumping off the boat just off Isla Mujeres.

My advice is reserve a few days after the wedding (or before) for just you and your SO. We had all of our guests there for the same time frame that we were there and did not feel like we had adequate time to relax because we were either running around finishing up details for the wedding and (while it was wonderful to have our nearest and dearest there) it was a lot of pressure on us to spend time with everyone. If I could do it over, the only thing I would change is arriving a few days earlier than our guests so we could have some alone time before the wedding.

Palace resorts are fantastic! (Hard Rock Riviera Maya has the same wedding collections they do). We loved our wedding in Cancun. Our friends just stayed at HRRM and loved it. There are plenty of options, just look into their wedding packages and what all they include. We did a complimentary collection and it was GORGEOUS.

@AshleyDanielle, my parents just got back from a vacation in January to Hyatt Ziva and they loved it! They said the food was fantastic and the service was great. Their photos looked beautiful, it would be a great place for a wedding by the looks of it!

Hi Melissa, congratulations for choosing Mexico for your wedding. As a pro I would recommend you the Reef Playacar in Playa del Carmen, the price is affordable, the food is good and they have many excursions, plus if u choose Playa del Carmen you'll be in the middle of the Mayan Riviera, so that you can move easily to Cancun or to Tulum.

If you need more infos feel free to write me.
