Help!! Decorations!!!

Ally, on January 5, 2020 at 12:19 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13
Hello!! Some back story, my FH and I are young getting married and we are paying for everything ourselves so we aren’t going “all out” but we do want to have a ceremony and a reception with our families. We are having the ceremony at my grandfather’s church and the reception is at FH’s grandfather’s free masons meeting hall. We are getting both spaces for free which is a big help money wise. We have started thinking about how we are going to decorate in order to make it feel less boring to the eye. I have literally no clue how to make it look cute and fit our feel. I would love any help or insight on what you would do in my situation decoration wise. Thank you so much!

Do you have any photos of the reception venue? Table cloths and centerpieces can be cheap. It just depends on what your style is!

    Can you post a pic?

Uplights will help a great deal in a hall venue! You can use one if your wedding colors, or choose a more natural glow (a golden yellow). I rented ours from RentMyWedding for $25 each for the cordless kind. Free shipping, easy set-up.
How many guests? In a big space (hall) in helps to create an intimate setting by placing all the items closer together (like the tables in the center of the room or around a dance floor—not spread out all over the hall).

I’d also suggest a bigger centerpiece instead of a short cluttered one. For example, one lantern with greenery or flowers will have greater visual impact than several small flowers vases grouped together.

Uplights against the side walls will definitely help! Maybe 3-4 per side.

Because the lighting isn’t romantic, I would think a centerpiece with lighting (the lantern idea) would help a lot with the look AND feel. 😊

Do you have a picture of the lantern idea? Thank you, what would you recommend to cover some of the walls? They have pictures of old men in tiny cars that I would personally like to cover.

Ok, so firstly, pinterest is your best friend. Its terrible for shopping because everything is obsolete, but its great for design ideas. Plus, you can bookmark anything you see that you like. Thats where i found the tattoo that is on me permanently. Im not messing around.
Second, DIY. I hope youre pretty crafty. My FH and i are pretty young too (19 and 22), and have a budget wedding. Im making my own dress, invitations, decorations, and really anything i could possibly do on my own. I got a venue that doesnt offer extra services, so i can cost effectively do it myself. Im not going to pay someone to set up chairs. Well, you dont have to worry about that. Your venue being free is like half of it.
Another thing ive learned about budget weddings is, if you must inquire about someone's services, dont do it on wedding wire. People charge higher rates for weddings. Google it, so more options are available to you, and then say, "party", not reception. Obviously, if its something for your ceremony, you cant lie about that, but in other cases, say party instead so you dont pay the married tax.

Dollar Tree has candles and vases. I found candelabras and other decorations at the thrift store. We made our own table numbers out small logs from a tree that fell down. We got a giant roll of cheese cloth off of amazon and dyed it in the washing machine for table runners. The florist made simple bouquets in mason jars. Fairy lights are pretty cheap on eBay. Help!! Girl Pinterest will be your best friend! just look up hall wedding decor and they'll have so many ideas. you can kind of get an idea of what you like and go from there. Michaels, Hobby Lobby and AC Moore were great for deals on decor!

Pinterest and Google Images will be a great help to you for getting ideas. Then start thinking of ways you can DIY because that's how you're going to save the most money. We are doing everything ourselves, including paper chains and streamers, and we're blowing up balloons. We're hanging warm, white lights and we have a homemade photo backdrop (We bought the lights right after Christmas to save money on those, and we purchased big, kind-sized sheets at thrift stores and dip-dyed them for our backdrop. Cost us about $10 total). Pay attention to sales at craft stores and clip those coupons. For instance, Hobby Lobby has a sale on all their wedding stuff every month or so - so don't buy any wedding stuff full price. Wait until it goes 50% off. And Michael's and Joann's have new sales every day. The Dollar Tree can also be your best friend. Try YouTube for ideas on Dollar Tree wedding decor inspiration. Smiley heart

Dollar Tree vases!! We are using them on our tables and no one (except y'all) will be the wiser!! We are also DIY a lot of our decoration using silks and buying used!! I have gotten my candelabra's and table numbers off other brides and saved the difference, it is also so eco-friendly to re-use these items. I know I will be selling all of my decor once our wedding is over as we don't need it and others can use it. Keep your eyes peeled for good bargains and start collecting things early.
