HELP!!!! Bridesmaid Dress *VENT* Alterations???

KKnTrev, on March 15, 2012 at 9:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 12

So my worst fear came true... the bridesmaid who refused to own up to her actual dress size doesn't fit into her dress. But better yet is the excuse she gave me for not trying it on with me there... Wait for it... "I need to wait until I start my period before I try it on!" WTF??? Are you kidding me??? Now what do I do. It zips half way up but at the bust it has about a 7 inch gap. The dresses came with wraps... I'm wondering can it be altered? Can the material from the wrap be used to add to the bust line??? It took 9 weeks to get the dress in, they clearly state no refunds or exchanges as the dresses are made to order from Mori Lee, and there is only 10 weeks until the wedding. Definitely not time to order another dress... Help!!!!!!!!!!

Have you talked to an alterations person in your town? See if they can fix it. Usually dresses don't have enough extra fabric to let it out too much. They might have an option for giving it more of a corset back to allow it to close, with the wrap it may hide it?

I was wondering if they can use the wrap for material??? I don't want them using the wrap with it being a summer wedding and such a pretty dress.

The might be able too, with the pleating on the bodice it might not even be noticeable. I'm an amateur when it comes to alterations, so I think I would be headed over there first think tomorrow to talk to them in person and see what they can do.

Had the same problem with my MOH (sister). Her dress zips only up to her bustline. She talked with a seamstress who is going to put in lace insets on the side seams which, since she won't be wearing a bra, will look just fine. So, keep your chin up, find a good seamstress and she can probably take care of it.

First of all smack her for being so immature... jk... but like the other ladies said, a good seamstress can work something out for you.. possibly pull the back pleating flat so you get more space and you wont see the difference in this girls dress in pictures at all.

Oh trust me I'm about to smack her out of the wedding. I don't have time for a diva. She didn't want me to be there when she tried it on because she knew it wouldn't fit. I will. All around a few places to see what I can find out. Thanks girls. You have given me hope.

Cynthia is right. If they add the wrap in to the sides and use the same pleat style it should be just fine! I sew, but I am not a professional... So hopefully a seamstress will be able to alter it to fit.

Poor thing. i've got my bridesmaids all wanting to lose weight before the wedding, so no one wants to shop yet.... I could scream!

Well now the latest story is.... I called around all morning finding a local place for her that would be willing to take a look at the dress. She refuses to have her husband bring the dress to work (we work together) who is 5 minutes away so I CAN GO ON MY LUNCH to take the dress to them, and she refuses to drive 15 minutes away to their other location tomorrow "because she isn't from the area and has never been there before." IT'S HER FREAKING TOWN... I JUST MOVED HERE 1 1/2 YEARS AGO. SHE HAS BEEN HERE FOR 8 YEARS... OMG. I'M GONNA FLIP. PLEASE KEEP ME SANE GIRLS!!!

Oh wow, I am so sorry hun! that is one thing you don't not want to deal with. If she wasn't comfortable getting a dress in the proper size she should have declined. I'm just curious did you order the dress without her or why did not the shop not have her exact measurements? I would give her no choice say either 1. you pull up your big girl panties and go get you dress altered 2. walk down the aisle looking stupid for getting a dress to small and that doesn't fit or 3. she's out of the wedding. What does she think she is going to do just get a shrink-o-matic machine out and magically make the dress fit?

I took her measurements and compared them to the size chart. I recommended we go 2 sizes up because A-she has DD boobs with Implants B-at the time she was in a regular dress size 18... These run small and they were fully aware I wanted 2 sizes up due to that reason, and also the fact they are non-returnable and took 9 weeks to get in. We only have 10 weeks until my wedding and they make you allow 12... She is just not wanting to admit her dress needed to be a 22... We know she isn't that size but it's not about size, it's about fit.... and right now it doesn't. She has lost 50 pounds in the last few months but even with that the dress was too small.

I know this was a while ago, but I'm just wondering how this worked out? I'm in a similar situation,my MOH's dress is too small but one of my bridesmaid's dresses is too big, so I was thinking we might be able to take what needs to come off of her dress and add it to the MOH's dress.
