Help! Anne Barge dress delayed. Stuck without dress one week before my wedding.

Emily, on October 18, 2022 at 2:53 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

Brides! I am freaking out and could really use some advice. My wedding is on October 29th and my dress is stuck in production delays overseas. I purchased an Anne Barge wedding dress in May 2022 and was told it would arrive in August or early September. It is now Oct. 18, my wedding is less than 2 weeks away and apparently the dress is stuck at some overseas facility. What’s worse, they haven’t provided me with a plan B, I can’t get in touch with them and I’m pretty sure that this point I won’t have a dress for my wedding. This is every bride’s worst nightmare. Especially after paying $3k for a dress. Any thoughts on what I should do at this point? I'm really worried.

You need to go shopping, now, for a dress you can buy off the rack and take home the same day. Try local bridal stores that may have dresses available, but also think outside the bridal box and go to any and all department stores.

Also call local alterations shops, ask about their turn around time, and make an appointment at one that can promise alterations between now and your wedding date. Good luck!

First, I would search for the dress on Facebook marketplace, Ebay, Still White, etc. See if anyone is reselling it!

If not, then I absolutely would say it is time to go to a shop that has sample dresses in your size or a resale shop. Either can send you home with a dress the same day.

Like PP said, also book an alterations appointment ASAP so you can use it for either your new dress or if your other one gets here.

Just breathe and remember that you are really the only one who cares about this specific dress. A bride always shines on her wedding day! It'll be okay!

Lastly, if the dress doesnt come in time, don't worry about getting a refund or anything until after the wedding. It will be much easier to calmly handle that situation once the emotion of the wedding day has passed.

    Fingers crossed!

Facebook marketplace, Facebook groups for brides that resell items. Ask your very close friends/BFFs to look on Facebook in their areas. Those are probably your best bets for deals since you already spent $3k. I would also call around to stores vs going to a bunch of bridal shops. Explain your situation and tell them your size and ask them what they have in stock that you can get NOW. David's Bridal is also a good option. I think they have more than your average bridal shop. Good luck... you'll figure this out and I bet you'll find something you LOVE!!!! Oh, and if you paid with a credit card... i would cancel the charge now for the original dress. Don't get stuck paying for that!!!!

Can the store swap out a trunk show dress, or arrange one from the NY store? I'm sorry that you're going through this. Would you be open to posting a photo of this dress so others can post ready to wear suggestions that are similar?

I would go to the store you purchased it at and see if or what options they can offer you. It's not your fault your dress is stuck overseas but they should do something or have some type of advice.

What was the original delivery estimate? I understand that delivery estimates have generally been increased by one or two months since the covid years. I would hope the store or Anne Barge could trade something now available for the dress to come. All these bridal groups need to work together on this type of situation, especially when the world is less predictable at the moment.

I am really surprised that they let you order a gown with such a short timeframe. Gowns are taking anywhere between 4 - 7 months to come in.

I would go to the store and see if they have a sample that they can get you or if they could get one from another store.

Hi Maggie, JA, Sarah, Michelle, Veronica, Michael, Amy,

Thank you so much for taking the time to listen, comfort/reassure me and provide really thoughtful advice. I acted on many of the suggestions you all provided. It warms my heart to know there is this community that wants to support brides. There are so many expectations around a wedding and it's reassuring to know there’s a community here that wants to help make a bride’s wedding day a really happy and positive experience for her. I wasn’t really comfortable sharing a lot with my family and friends because it’s really hard for me to open up about problems and accept help. I’m not usually very active on social media and you all made such a positive impact on my day.

    So here’s the update….

I spoke with the local bridal boutique where I purchased my dress and the head designer at Anne Barge directly. The Anne Barge team saw my post on Wedding Wire and reached out both to me and the boutique. (Better late than never.) Anne Barge is overnighting two sample sizes of the dress design that I purchased from their flagship store and one similar dress style sample to my local bridal boutique. The local seamstress that works with the bridal boutique confirmed she can come in on Thursday or Friday and turn my alterations around within 24 hours. There is still a chance that my dress could come in by Friday. But I’m hopeful the Plan B (and C) that we have in place will ensure I have a dress on my wedding day that I will feel confident in.

The original delivery date was late August. Their standard delivery is 16 weeks (which would have been early September) but this dress was supposed to be “rushed”.

Once I have my dress I will share a picture!! Fingers crossed!!

    Thank you again!!

    Emily

Yay. I'm glad the designer and the boutique have actually taken action on this to get you the dress like or near what you ordered. This is the action needed when recovering from bad times. Thanks to Anne Barge (and glad they found your post) and to the boutique.
