HELP! Alternative "Union Ceremony" Ideas?

Jenna, on June 11, 2013 at 3:42 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

My fiance and I are really having a hard coming up with a unique or alternative way to do the unity ceremony during our wedding. We are not big fans of the sand idea and our friends have done combining of flowers, locking away a bottle of wine and doing the write each other a love note to open on your one year anniversary...Does anyone have any suggestions that we would be able to use?

I am in the same boat. We are outside for the ceremony so a candle is not an option if it's a bit breezy. We are doing the sand unless we find a better idea...so far the sand is winning Smiley sad

I googled "unity candle alternatives" and found alot of options...just none that have really grabbed our attention.

I'm having a beach wedding and saw on pinterest where a couple tied a knot out of rope....I'm really interested in going with this. Especially since it fits my nautical theme, and we can display it afterwards Smiley smile

Salt covenant, hand fasting, rose exchange, hands blessing. There is also a company here on WW that sells unity circle (rope with beads/charms representing B and G, and children if any).

We did a twist on the wine box and love letters ceremony to involve all of our guests and make it a time capsule. For the 1 year we have all of our guests write well wishes, for 5 our wedding party and siblings will write hopes and dreams for us, and for 10 our parents will write life and relationship advice. We will do champagne in the 1 year, wine in the 5, and scotch in the 10.

Don't do one. Exchanging rings kind of says it all.

Cord of three strands, wine ceremony (not a bottle of wine, but combining a red and white wine to make a rose), tequila ceremony...

The most clever thing we could come up with thus far is to create/finish a Lego house together as we are both closet nerds a bit, but didn't think that we would necessarily want to keep that lego house on display for many many years to come, because lets face it eventually when we have kids, we would want to play with them. We thought about the tying the knot metaphor, but that didn't grab us either...

Who knew this was going to be soooo complicated.

Honestly the unity stuff for us is kind of "eh" so we're skipping it. We didn't feel like spending more time and energy on a creative process that just wasn't working for us.

That said, if you're creative enough to come up with someone unique or that means something to you, by all means do it!

Personally I do get all this unity stuff (that is what the wedding is why do you need any extra)

If nothing is jumping out at you then don't do it.
