Heirlooms

Tiffany, on September 17, 2015 at 6:44 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 20

What kind of things are you guys using that have been passed down to you?

My e-ring (and wedding set) used to be FMIL wedding set. FFIL passed away a few years ago and now that we are getting married FMIL gave her rings to FH.

I wore my great grandmother's earrings and necklace in my wedding. And in my stupid carelessness in packing up the morning after (my concern was my dress), I lost them. Hold onto your heirlooms ladies!

I'm wearing my grandmother on my mother's side's ring, the grandmother on my father's side's pearl necklace, and using the lace handkerchief that my FH grandmother had for her wedding 66 years ago.

I'm wearing my Nana's pearls on the wedding day. She passed away 4 years ago, so it will be a nice reminder of her. My sisters also surprised me with these lace table runners that my great gram's grandmother (so my great, great, great grandma I think?) hand made. They are still in amazing condition, and I get to use them on my wedding day! I am so lucky Smiley smile

I wore my mothers ring set and the necklace she got married in. I also had both of my grandmothers diamond erings pinned into my dress by my heart. I would have worn my mothers' veil if it had matched my dress a lot better.

The center stone of my e-ring belonged to my late grandmother; it wasn't from her wedding set but from a piece of jewelry she had. Also, I wore my late grandmother's pearl necklace on my wedding day, that my late grandfather brought home from the Korean War.

My original wedding set is an heirloom that began with my great great grandmother's hat pin. I'm also wearing my grandmother's faux pearls she got when she worked at the Richelieu factory in the 40's and her rhinestone earrings.

My e ring was FH's mother's. She was engaged for several years when she passed away. She had been waiting for both of her sons to get married before she re-married. If FH gets a suit or tux with the ability to use a belt, I think he will use the gold belt buckle that was his grandfathers.

We are using the Kiddish cup my grandfather used for his bar-mitzvah in Germany pre-WWII. I might also use my other grandfathers wedding band for the ceremony and then slip on my wedding band after the ceremony.

Instead of a bouquet, I carried H's late mom's cross and I wear my mom's wedding ring.

@SomedaySamA- Thank you. he was actually worried that I wouldn't like it.

I love hearing about the things that get passed down. I want to be able to pass things down to my kids one day.

I wore pearls my grandmother gave me. I never got to talk to her about them, but when I had them appraised, the estimated age would have made them older than her, and therefor it's likely they belonged to someone else before her. Wish I knew the whole story...

I would have been really happy to get heirloom rings, but my MIL wears hers and my family all still have each of their own, so that wasn't a thing.

I did wear my mom's veil from the mid-80s, but she was the first owner, it wasn't a way-back heirloom. That also worked well because I had no veil and was worried about the back of my dress looking right, and it ended up being happy for her. And I looked way different than her at her wedding, which made it kind of more cool to me.

I'm wearing my late grandmother's pearls, hopefully my mom can find her hat pin with the something blue that she and my aunt wore. I'm going to see if my grandma on my dad's side has some earrings I can wear and something to remember my grandfather by. Possibly a handkerchief or something that I can tuck in my dress.

I don't have a picture of it, and i haven't actually seen it myself, but I'm inheriting a string of pearls from my grandmother. Apparently they get passed down to the 1st granddaughter, and they skipped my 2 aunts, so even though I hate pearls, I have to wear them lol.
