Heirloom wedding dress worries

I always wanted a tea length lace wedding dress and love the vintage style. I also adored this picture of my fiance's grandma in her wedding dress so much that I had a copy of the picture for myself. Well his family offered me her well preserved dress for my wedding and I was super excited. I checked it out but couldn't try it on because not only am I more busty than her, but the zipper only opens on the waist so I couldn't even open the dress up fully. It's super pretty and just what I was thinking about but not being able to see it on my body scares me. The neckline shape and bust style aren't really used anymore so I can't go try on a different dress in a similar shape. I'm just scared that they'll cut and alter the dress so I can fit in it and then I won't like it on my body. I'm not sure what I should do! I attached the original picture and me holding it up since I can't put it on.Heirloom wedding dress worries 1

Also it hits just above mid calf on me you just can't tell from this picture.

The original dress is gorgeous and the neckline and style could still very easily be used today. I'd see about taking it to a seamstress and trying it on and seeing if they can alter it to your body style. If the family is offering it to you, it's worth a try.

You could also get a linen mock up of the dress done to your size to see if you like the style on you. The dress won't have to be altered until you have tried the linen silhouette. You may even prefer getting one made, an exact replica so that the original doesn't need to be touched. If his Grandma is still with you, she could wear hers and you could have some photos of both of you in your dresses.

Ooh I hadn't thought of having a mock up made, that's a good idea!

    That’s a beautiful dress Elissabeth!

I’d try to find a top with a similar neckline to that dress, and then go to a big bridal or department store and try on dresses with a similarly shaped bottom to the heirloom dress! You can kind of piece those dress bottoms together visually with your top to get an idea of the overall shape and style!
