heels into flats...how does it work?

Mayhem, on September 24, 2015 at 10:13 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 24

Lots of people are saying they want to wear heels for the ceremony and change into flats for dancing... will that not make the dress too long and awkward to dance in?

I love the idea, as do my BMs but then everyone will either stand on the dresses or we will all have to hold them up. ive seen BMs crunching them up in one hand to dance and it looked awful!

any thoughts?

I'm wearing TOMS flats for my whole wedding.

If you want to switch from heels to flats, why don't you get an inch or 2 altered off your dress?

Get your dress bustled to the flat length but hemmed to your heels. The front might drag a little but back and sides will be bustled flat! try to keep heels to 1-2 inches for the best look. Higher heels will make flats look more noticeable.

I wore heels for my wedding and changed into slippers at the reception. My heels were only 2 inches and we bustled the dress for the reception, so only a little bit of my dress dragged in the front, like maybe an inch. I know if I would have had higher heels it would have been much more noticeable.

Platform sandals. My MOH bought 3.5 inch sandals and changed into them after her wedding and she is letting me borrow them. They are actually taller than my heels for the ceremony.

I wore 4" heels and changed into flat sandals. My bustle dragged behind me even with heels, so I didn't really notice a difference when I changed my shoes. Nobody stepped on it and I didn't have any trouble walking or dancing. I might have kind of kicked it out in front of me as I walked, but I can't really remember, so it clearly didn't bother me.

Ahh ok thanks ladies! intend going with 2-3" heels, I prefer my posture in a heel. I probably wont need to change to flats anyway, im good in heels. but I know my BMs want heels, but I also know she cant really walk well in them!

I wore flip flops the whole time so I was comfortable! My MOH brought really tall heals so I pulled the bride card and stole them from her bag so she had to wear flip flops the entire time. She thanked me after.

I held my dress if I needed to, but I didn't notice at all.

My seamstress is putting little snaps on the front - she called it a reception hem. So, if I decide to wear flats/go barefoot, I'll just snap that up and be good to go =)

Good question! I'm just following to see what people say. I am only wearing 2" heels anyway, so it probably doesn't matter much for me. But I am always curious when brides say they are wearing 4-5" heels and then changing into flats for the reception!

Anna, I always wondered if they made a front bustle! Your seamstress is brilliant!

Hmm, never thought about this. Good thing my heals are only about 1.5 inches...won't be a huuuuge difference.

I'm wearing 'flats' the whole time... Dunno yet if they will be sneakers, pumps, or cowboy boots.

ETA: I refuse to wear heels. I will be comfortable on my big day!!

I has my dress hemmed to be 1/2 inch from the ground in my heels. I got married in a garden and didn't want the hem to get dirty. It was perfect on the floor in my flats. The bustle was also done for flats.

I wore 4" heels then switched into cowboy boots partway thru the reception. I had the dress fit to my height in the 4" heels because I would rather have it drag when wearing the shorter heels than be too short for the formal pictures. Like a PP said, I couldn't tell any difference in the "drag" after changing.

Much like you avatar... .I'm wearing a 2" kitten heel and possibly changing into flats later. I'm usually wearing heels all week at work, so I'm good with wearing a heel all day.

Anna that's a great idea! If you could post a picture that would be great!

I'm still debating on the heels for the ceremony.. I normally don't wear them and can't find something that'll work yet (that isn't super high).

I just got really pretty lace flats from dessy.com and will be wearing them the whole time to avoid this problem. My thought was why bother buying two pairs of shoes in which one will only be worn for like 30 minutes & cant even be seen under my big dress.
