Any ways, I found some really nice heavy dute plastic plates. & since Im having a buffet style, I dont see the need to use real china. we have 65 person guest list with 46 of them being family. Its not a formal wedding at all. My family will not think we are cheap or tacky.

& I will not be using plastic forks & knifes etc. just Plastic plate.

& the heavy duty plastic plate I bought ( sample pack) is way stronger than the acrylic the catering company has.

What do you all think?

That would be totally fine!! Who even cares Smiley smile if you want something a little fancier though, I'm going with plastic clear plates that look like they're crystal. But they're completely cheap Smiley smile it's your day, who cares about the plates! Just enjoy yourself Smiley smile

Alright I paid more for china and I kinda thought plastic was cheap but SAMs has some nice white ones with a silver trim that look like normal plates. I wonder if that's what they use, If it is it kinda sucks I paid more per person for it.

I don't mind plastic as long as it doesn't look plastic they do make nice ones

So why are you asking us? It sounds like you've already made a decision. Personally, I would have white china over plastic plates any day, and I DO think "fake" plates are tacky and I hate eating off of them, but if you are ok with it and your guests won't mind, then it doesn't matter what I think . . .

I agree with Lynzey; I'd probably raise an eyebrow unless it was SUPER casual. There's nothing wrong with plastic, but it wouldn't be my preference for a wedding. But do what works for you!

I was asking to see what people thought just because I have my mind set on something doesn't mean I can't see everybody else's opinions. But yeah that's why I asked Smiley smile

Go for it! Our wedding is at a park, reception there as well....we are using the heavy, nice looking plastic from Sam's Club as well as the plastic silverware that looks real (silver color)....not cheap or tacky, just practical!

I agree it is very practical. Some people don't have the Extra money to spend on "china"

    & even if I did TBH I wouldn't, I could careless.

If you wanted to do plastic silverware, they now make some that looks like the real thing. Hard to tell the difference until you pick it up. Just sayin

Not tacky. Tacky is using paper. Heavy duty plastic is budget friendly. Nobody cares what plates they eat off of!

Not seeing the plates you are thinking of, nor the look of your venue. I am not going to vote one way or the other.

What I wanted to comment on was the rental charge you were quoted for real china. $5.00 per plate??? Yikes!

The rental company I use charges .55 per plate for Bone China. You were getting ripped off, big time.

@Jennifer, that is just crazy! Highway robbery.

These are the most expensive plates at the rental company that I use for events:

I think anyone who judges the plates at your wedding shouldn't be invited to your wedding (that being said - I have an aunt that would probably make a negative statement under her breath - but I honestly could care less.)

If it makes more sense then go for it!

I think you can find some pretty fancy plastic plates that will look just as elegant as real china, and you can find them for really cheap, here I found them for very good prices at http://www.thecloseoutconnection.com/plastic-goods-s/1846.htm

I'm going to be doing plastic also, I'm getting married in September buffet style. I don't find it tacky and if people at your wedding are concerned about that and think it is then I personally wouldn't want those kind of people at my wedding any way. It's your day and it should be what u want. Any suggestions on some that are heavy duty I'm just afraid of them not being sturdy enough by ordering them online???

We are using the heavy duty plastic plates and our wedding in Feb 2018 and ours is formal. My wedding coordinator said this if anyone has a an issue with it will they be help paying for anything lol.

Go for it! At the end of the day it's about you and your love becoming one with each other, not the plates hahaha. Have fun and congratulations to everyone that have or will be getting married soon!
