heavy duty plastic plates.. Tacky?

Mrs. Brock, on March 22, 2013 at 11:42 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 40

My catering company offers, basic, acrylic, or white china with gold riim. that doesnt even match with my decor.

Any ways, I found some really nice heavy dute plastic plates. & since Im having a buffet style, I dont see the need to use real china. we have 65 person guest list with 46 of them being family. Its not a formal wedding at all. My family will not think we are cheap or tacky.

& I will not be using plastic forks & knifes etc. just Plastic plate.

& the heavy duty plastic plate I bought ( sample pack) is way stronger than the acrylic the catering company has.

What do you all think?

Go for it....My wedding sounds about the same as you and that is what we are doing. Mine is outdoors, beach, catered bbq and we are totally laid back people. As a guest, I honestly could care less as long as they were sturdy and durable. Smiley smile....oh your almost my date twin!!! WE ARE SOOO CLOSE NOW!!!!

I say go for it. When I originally saw the headline of the post I was going to say no way but after reading about your wedding I totally think it would be fine! Especially if they match your decor better :-)

Yep!! our is very laid back as well, outdoor ceremony indoor reception. we are serving heavy hors d'oeuvres. So its not like they will be cutting into a steak on a plastic plate. & same here I could careless about the plates etc. I say as long as the food is good thats all that matter lol

& Yes!!! Its going to be around the corner before we know it!!

We used the ivory plastic disposable plates with the gold rim, and that plastic flatware that is silver so it looks like metal. It looked fantastic. You really couldn't tell at all that anything was plastic. Our venue didn't have stuff like that we could rent, and if we rented plates or silverware from anywhere else, someone would have had to wash dinner dishes for 250 people before we returned them. Yikes. It was nice, though definitely not environmentally friendly, just to be able to toss everything. Smiley smile

    Thanks Ladies!

    I feel better lol

Yeah I got a qoute from 1 rental place

one wanted $5 a person for a plate.. yeah that added up to $325 + delivery fee & extra $75 because they had to be picked back up that night ( since my venue says everything has to be out the same night. ughh I just cant see spending that much on plates that we are renting! and WE would have to have them cleaned for them to be picked up, & Im not having anybody wash dishes on my wedding day. Nor will I hire somebody to wash them.

No judgement here. We are doing the fancy plastic china since we are doing a buffet style reception.

We will be using plastic. Originally I wasn't a fan of plastic at weddings, but ya know they make some really nice ones now.

I will be using one too, fancy palstic china and the silver plastic flatware, but are you going to use chargers to decorate the table, I will be serving buffet style.

Honestly, I have seen some plates out there who could be twins with my Lenox china pattern(cream/gold). If you are happy with it, go for it.

I'll be using them also. Not tacky. That's actually what most people around my area uses, instead of fine china. They looks real without the worry of someone breaking it.
