Heated Tent for Winter Weddings

Maddy, on September 21, 2020 at 9:05 AM Posted in Planning 0 8
With COVID-19 wrecking so many plans, my fiancé and I are looking into what an outdoor winter wedding would look like. Has anyone else heard of using a heated tent in the winter? We live in the Midwest and any indoor location is limited to 10 people and probably won’t change.

Not a wedding, but I have attended charity events in Chicago with a heated tent in the winter. You will need a lot of heaters. My experience was very comfortable, it was cute being in the tent in the winter, actually. But they probably had one heater every 10 feet. I'm not sure if your venue has heaters, but I've even just been looking for one for my balcony recently and they are continually selling out (Covid has everyone looking for ways to stay outside longer) so I would definitely start looking soon if they are something you need to rent/buy.

I’m sure there are tent rental places that offer heaters as well. Our indoor/outdoor venue in Massachusetts has a tented ceremony space that they can heat. That said, you should carefully determine what constitutes “indoor” before moving forward with a heated tent. The issue with indoor dining/gathering is lack of proper ventilation with the virus. Many orders include enclosed tents as subject to the indoor restrictions.

Just looked. It is. I am so so frustrated. With immediate family only, we’re still over 10 people.

I wouldn't consider a heated, enclosed tent to be outdoor, for the purposes of good airflow required for the prevention of transmission of COVID. Aside from that, whether a tent would be warm enough for a winter event definitely depends on the local weather that week, the number of heaters, the surface under the tent (wet grass? bare dirt? cold concrete?), and other factors.

Because of the restrictions, we’re planning a mini wedding next month with just immediate family (17 people including us) outside and waiting til next year to do our big wedding. A lot of people are doing it this way due to covid so that could be an option if you don’t want to push out your marriage?

Yes heated tents are definitely a thing! They can be very spacious too!

Do you or a family member have a yard that would be big enough for your immediate family? The gathering size limits don't always apply to people's homes (definitely check your state/local guidelines). I agree that a heated tent isn't exactly the same as being outdoors because if it was, you wouldn't be able to keep it warm, but it's definitely still safer than being in a building, so I still think it's worth considering. You should just make sure to use additional precautions like hand sanitizer and masks.
