Health reasons, need to back out of venue

Melanie, on September 5, 2019 at 10:38 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8
Hi everyone,

this is past week has been hell for me. My mom helped me out with a deposit for a venue $2000, a couple of weeks ago.

This is last week, my face became swollen and going to the dentist I was told that I would need to replace just not that tooth but the whole upper arch of my mouth. I’m going to need surgery for implants. The cost of my wedding will now be going towards my health.

My fiancé is happy with whatever decision I need to make but I need to make it quick. We are smaller intimate wedding.

That being said, I planned for next June for the wedding. Nothing else has been planned, no other vendors.

How is can I ask her for the deposit back?

am I thinking too much about this?

Did you get/sign a contract? Most of the time deposits are non-refundable. Just call and ask, they way be willing due to medical reasons.

It might be refundable because of health issues. I would just explain this to them and take all doctors documents to back up your story.

If they don't refund, they may be willing to move your date free of charge- but you will still require a date to do so.

I’m with Casey on this one. See if they can change the date that way you have extra time to save & keep the venue/deposit. I’m sure it’ll work out 💗

    Melanie,
I experienced this same issue. 2018 was
Original date in Spring due to my health
I asked for deposit back. They offered to
let me change date. I did within same year
Fall. But, unfortunately due to my health
medication I gained so much weight, I
wasn't ready. I lost deposit. But, found
a location that is very nice cheaper.
    I hope you get better.

I like what Casey said about moving dates. I think that's something venues could do for you.

I was thinking about moving my wedding date, for other reasons, and the venue coordinator said it was possible but we'd have to pay a fee. Some places will do it for free, others will charge you. Good luck with the implants

I would ask about moving the date so you don't lose the deposit since often times they are non-refundable regardless of the reasoning behind it. It never hurts to ask either way. If the contract is already signed there may not be as much flexibility.
