He wants to wear a hat, advice please

Martha, on March 22, 2016 at 4:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 42

Hey ladiesSmiley smile so my fiance (still weird to say) is slightly balding. This makes him uncomfortable even though I think he is sexy as hell. He doesn't want to go without a hat. We talked about a paperboy hat, fedora or cowboy hat. He is considering them even though that's not his style at all. I know he would best feel comfortable in a ball cap. I was thinking to myself that we could do a brand new white ball cap. Have any of you ever came across this issue? Feels silly doing the ball cap but o want him comfortable on his day too.

I guess it depends on the venue for the ceremony. Inside or outside? Will the bridal party be wearing more formal outfits (tuxes, floor length dresses), or casual?

I immediately thought of How I Met Your Mother when Marshal shaved his head and had to wear a fedora.

I think it would depend on your venue. If it is really fancy, a baseball cap may seem out of place. On the other hand, you don't want to make him wear anything that doesn't reflect his personality. What is the dress code like at your wedding? What will he be wearing?

Setting determines so much for this! If it's an informal setting (beach, backyard, eclectic/rustic venue) the ball cap or a cowboy hat could go over fine. For an indoor formal setting, he's probably out of luck.

Has he considered shaving or close-cropping his head? (a la Statham?)

My guys are wearing western hats, then removing them for the ceremony.

I would compromise with a more formal hat like a paperboy hat or fedora. Still classy and it'll cover a bald spot.

Get an old style baseball loose cap made out of your wedding dress extras from alterations... Or something like that. Or spray paint his head to match his hair. My dad is going bald, no hat. It's just life. EMBRACE THE BALD!!!!

Let the baldness surround you. Become the cue ball.

I say let him go with whatever he wants.

However, I will also say that the idea of a baseball cap at wedding sounds a lot more ridiculous than a bald spot. I'd be far more likely to notice that and point and snicker than I would a bald spot.

And this is coming from someone whose fiance is also balding. He just shaves it and rocks bald like a choice.

I vote no hats, but he has to be comfortable, too.

Panama hat for a beach wedding.

The only time a hat would be appropriate for an indoor ceremony would be in a synagogue.

Unless it's super formal for top hats or rustic for cowboy, this doesn't sound like a good idea.

Going bald is a reality for many men and lots of women as they get older, my FH included. I think encouraging him to own up to it would be better in the long run and make for better pictures.

@ Martha - I don't think you should go with a white hat for your FH unless he is wearing a white tux.

If he is choosing to wear a hat of some sort, it should coordinate with his suit/tux. Do you know what he is wearing (color/style)?

If he is most comfortable in a baseball cap style, maybe picture 1 would be a compromise.

@debra I love the 1st black one! And my baby gets what he wants. I agree about the white hat and I hate white suits.

My answer to these kinds of questions is always that Its his big day too. He wants a hat? Help him pick out one that is nice and will work. He is not (Im assuming) giving input on what you wear.
