Haybale Ceremony Seating?

Elizabeth, on August 11, 2015 at 2:30 PM Posted in Planning 0 28

Okay so my wedding is on my father's farm. I'd like to do hay bale seating for the ceremony but wanted to get opinions on whether I have covered my bases or not. Cost- These hay bales are 100% free to me, The materials below were all bought in bulk and were inexpensive. Comfort- Now I know these are prickly, so I've taken the proper precautions. See pic for an idea. I got thick quilt batting in bulk and covered the tops of them, and over that covered the ENTIRE bale with white fabric, some with lace overlay. There should be no skin contact with the bale and should have a "pillowy top" feel. I've test sat on these in a dress, in my jeans, practically my bare ass, and I'm not getting pricked. So I assume it should be okay. This wedding is laid back with a short 15-20 minute ceremony. Elderly- I will have the front rows with regular chairs for the elderly and anyone who have may back issues. Allergies: I've checked with guests and have found no bad hay allergies. Did I forget anything?

Looks good. At first I was totally like noooo I don't want to be itchy or stinky or poked. But if you are going to go to all that trouble to do them sounds like you are doing it the right way! Make sure they are dry and covered to stay dry way before the wedding is the only thing I didn't see you touch on.

Sounds like you got your bases covered! I would still have a few chairs set in the back in case anyone's allergies start acting up. Ya never know. I did hay bales at mine and it worked out great! This is a pic prior to the ceremony in the middle of setting up.

I'd say make sure you have someone to move them that night so they don't get wet on the bottom, unless you're ok with sacrificing your bales.... but being on a farm, I'm sure someone already knows that!

Looks good to me too! I would have said prickly as the main concern, but it sounds like you have that covered! That photo is really pretty.

Just be sure to warn your guests beforehand because I'm still allergic to hay even if I'm not sitting on it so I will have to be sure I take and walk with allergy medication or I would be sneezing throughout your ceremony.

A friend of mine did it this weekend, they covered the top of the bales with cardboard and then lace. They had some chairs for the elderly or those with hay allergies. I think it was fine as long as you keep your ceremony short and sweet.

I agree with Barbara! Lol. First time someone has already thought of everything. Most of my family would have trouble with hay allergies even if our legs weren't touching. I would be a miserable person all sinusy and stuffy, but if none of your guests have hay allergies, then you've covered all your other bases.

So I haven't found any bad hay allergies within my guests, but should I include something in my wedding website anyway? Along the lines of "Due to the farmlike setting of this event, allergy/hay fever precaution is also recommended. " ?? What do you guys think?

I was going to say allergies, but it looks like you already checked! lol. Normally I'd be so against this but you're so ridiculously prepared...
