Hawaii Honeymooners!

Vivian, on July 7, 2019 at 5:51 PM Posted in Honeymoon 2 10
Looking for any past present and future Hawaii (big island, Kauai and maui) goer for advice/places to go/must sees/must avoid for a rocking honeymoon! We're doing a glorified backyard wedding on Big Island and we're hikers/snorkelers/divers - we're not much for clubs or regimented tours. Help!

I've heard the Captain Andy's boat rides on the Napali Coast in Kauai are a must. We are definitely going to be doing that!

We had our honeymoon in Hawaii! We got married on Maui, then jumped over to the Big Island and then Kauai for about a week each. I've got lots of ideas for you - how long are you on each island? Since you're doing a backyard-type wedding on the Big Island, is that where you normally call home?

This is by no means a comprehensive list, but I think I got most of the highlights:

Maui: Lots of activities here. Most of these we didn't get to do on *this* trip, but I have done them in the past and recommend them)

    - Dinner at Mama's Fish House (amazing food and decor, expensive, and extremely popular - make reservations well ahead of time!)

    Hawaii Honeymooners! 1

    - Maui Ocean Center if you like aquariums or just want to get closer to all the fish you saw while snorkeling

    - Snorkel or dive Molokini Crater - I love taking the Trilogy catamarans, or Blue Water Rafting if a Zodiac-style boat is more your speed

    - Day trip to Lanai

    - Road to Hana (all day trip, possibly two if you want to relax more) - you'll find lots of waterfalls and the black sand beach along the way

    - Sunrise on Haleakala (you'll need to get your passes a few months ahead of time)

Big Island: We called this our adventure island. It was my first time to the Big Island and we both loved it!

    - Kanaloa Octopus Farm (feed and hold octopuses and learn about their conservation - we loved this)

    Hawaii Honeymooners! 2

    - Ocean Rider Seahorse Farm (more of a regimented tour, but you do get a chance to hold a seahorse and see lots of different species. If you're going to pick between the two though, I would go with the octopus farm)

    - Breakfast or lunch at The Coffee Shack (delicious food and the geckos come to eat with you)

    Hawaii Honeymooners! 3

    - Manta Ray Dives/Snorkels Big Island Divers were excellent.

    - Snorkel or kayak at Captain Cook

    - Stargazing on Mauna Kea

    - Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park

    - Volcanoes National Park (no active lava right now, but still a lot of cool things to see)

    - We also stayed in this jungle treehouse near Volcano, which was AWESOME. Honeymoon Treehouse

    Hawaii Honeymooners! 4

Kauai: This is your hiking island, and overall a lot more laid-back and green.

    - Helicopter tour (seriously, do this if you do nothing else, and go doors off!). We've gone with Mauna Loa Helicopters

    - Boat tour of the Na Pali (I've been with Holo Holo on both their zodiacs and their catamaran - both were very good)

    - Hanalei Bay (excellent sunsets and pretty sunrises too)

    Hawaii Honeymooners! 5

    - Hike the Waimea Canyon

    - Tunnels and Ke'e Beaches just re-opened and are gorgeous, but now have restricted entry and parking, so plan ahead if you want to do these

    - Poipu Beach - I have a soft spot for this one because the turtles surf here

    Hawaii Honeymooners! 6

I hope this helps! I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have Smiley smile

We're actually coming from the east coast and have never been anywhere in Hawaii before

We're going to be on Big Island for a week staying in Kona then 4 days each on Kauai and maui

Your list is super helpful but anything else that you recommend would be excellent!

    Thanks 😊

If you go to Maui, check out Trilogy day trips. They take you out on a small-ish boat to some amazing snorkeling spots and it's a really laid back and fun trip. Also, if you want to splurge on a really nice meal, I highly recommend Mama's Fish House. And if you're a sushi person, I love Sansei sushi. They have two locations on the island I believe, and I think one on Oahu.

ETA: we went parasailing in Hawaii last year during the trip where FH proposed and it was one of my favorite times of the trip, besides getting engaged and all that. Amazing views and it's so quiet and peaceful up there.

Is Trilogy a place or a tour company?
