Having the children I nanny in my wedding

Renee, on October 25, 2020 at 11:55 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9
Hello! I have been nannying the same family for over 6 years. I really would like for them to be in my wedding because I am extremely close with them. The only problem is that there are 5 of them (ages at time of wedding will be 8,9,11 and 17) and I already have 5 children in the wedding party. (2 flower girls, 2 junior bridesmaids and a ring bearer) What would I have the children I nanny do? Is that too many kids in the wedding party ?

For the older kids, you could ask them to do a reading during the ceremony, or they could be ushers. For the younger kids, they could help hand out ceremony programs if you have them, or they could be altar boys/girls if you're having a religious ceremony. Here's a list of other possible wedding tasks for children that I found: https://www.wednet.com/wedding-guests/roles-for-children-to-play-at-weddings/

Honestly, 10 kids in a wedding is a lot. How many bridesmaids do you have? You’ve already selected your flower girls, ring bearer and Junior bridesmaids. So i wouldn’t try and force or create roles/tasks for the kids you nanny if it’s not something that’s truly needed at your wedding.

Some people may think that’s a lot of kids in your wedding..... 6 years nannying the some children is a BIG deal. They are part of your life, if you have a desire to have them share in your day. Do it! People in your life understand you and your life...it won’t came as a surprise that you are having them in your wedding. Btw I’m a mom and a nanny ALL my babies are in my wedding!

That’s a lot of kids in a wedding. How many bridesmaids & groomsmen do you have? I agree with the pp on maybe some can give out programs, usher people to their seats etc.

I only have 4 girls standing up as bridesmaids/MOH. The kids I nanny are a HUGE part of my life and it’s hard not to see them in my wedding.

Gotcha!!! Since you already selected the flower girls, junior bridesmaids and ring bearer, it sounded as though the children you nanny (and are hugely close with) weren’t part of the original wedding plan and it was an afterthought to add them and search for roles. I was mainly responding to your question which asked if it was too many kids to having the wedding. But sure.... go for it!

That's a lot of kids. The 17-year-old, can they maybe do a reading or something? I'm really not sure about the others.

5 is enough in the ceremony. Why not do something to make them feel special at the reception. The cake that the couple cuts, then feeds to each other, is a symbol of nurturence, that they will yake care of and provide for each other. Maybe they could walk out woth the oldest bringing the cake on a cart, or have them bring out a groom's cake, something the children of a family or village do in many cultures. It is within their understanding, unlike a reading or many other ways to participate.
