Having non-denominational ceremony... need script ideas!

LA girl, on April 4, 2014 at 3:57 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

We will be having a short and sweet, non-denominational ceremony. The hard part about that is that we have to completely come up with our own script. I have searched online for a few scripts, but its harder than I thought to find something that seems right for us.

The most important factor for us, is having the chance to do personal vows. Also, FH would like to do unity sand. (I could do without out, but since it doesn't bother me to have it, I'll let him have it).

Anybody have any scripts I can look at for ideas??

I wrote our own ceremony - I googled non denominational ceremony scripts and took things from a bunch of different scripts, edited the wording a little and voila! I second offbeatbride.com

Even a first-time officiant should have at least a basic script to show you.

For my first ceremony, I used what the State of Florida provided me.

Of course, I later went on to customize ceremonies for my couples.

My officiant provided us her standard vows which we used. I can send them to you if you want. We personalized it with readings by our friends that were "us."

Our officiant sent us a bunch of different readings to choose from (and other ceremonies--sand ceremonies, tree planting, wine, etc). We basically picked a few readings that we liked and integrated them in with our vows that we wrote by personalizing a combination of different vows we found online.

Edit: I can email you ours if you want.

I think most weddings go like this:

    1) officiant welcoming everyone, asking who gives the bride/who supports the couple/whatever (if you want that)

    2) some readings/prayers

    3) unity ceremony

    3)vows followed by rings

    4) possibly another reading/prayer paired with "I now pronounce you married" (whatever wording you use)
