Having a really hard time matching groomsmen dress shirts to bridesmaid dress.

Susanna, on November 1, 2012 at 1:55 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

I found the perfect bridesmaid dress and all 9 ladies have purchased theirs. It is a bright purple color and I cannot find a matching men's dress shirt!! I have tried Macy's, Kohl's, Dillard's, Bealls, JCpenneys, Target, I dont know where to look anymore! I thought about Tuxedo places but I looked online and it seems like the only dress shirt colors they have are black and white. Does anyone have any suggestions?? Or ever had this problem?

Can you post a picture of the color/dresses? Maybe something complimentary, rather than matching? We are going to have to do that for our guys' ties because FH doesn't want his GM wearing yellow ties - so we are going to have to pick something "complimentary" instead.

Did you check Express? Where did they get their dresses from? I know I had trouble finding shirts to match my girls dresses from Target, and ended up getting the Alfani Spectrum shirts from Macy's for about $20 each.

That's the dress and its really hard to tell color over the computer, but it is a very beautiful bright purple, I would like to think the most natural looking purple or the color that defines purple.. I'm kind of obsessed with purple!

I LOVE purple as well. But maybe you could go with just a purple tie and purple handkerchief? I think maybe having the men in purple shirts as well might be a lot of purple?? But just a suggestion. Not sure if this is the right shade of purple your lookin for but I found these on-line.

I agree with Married my tru love...I LOVE the purple tie & hankie idea better the shirts. It may be too much purple with the shirts & dresses.

I'll offer a differing POV and say it depends on how much purple. My FH is wearing a purple dress shirt with ivory pants and vest. So that helps break it up. If they guys are wearing full suits, you'll only see the chest area anyway.

And you also don't have to have an EXACT match. The guys shirts are about as close to my girls' dresses as they're going to get without being a dead on match, ya know?

We are doing purple as well.... it is a little darker than yours but am having the guys wear a pewter suite with an ivory shirt (since my dress is ivory with champagne detailing) and purple vest and tie... looks amazing.

I agree with doing the purple hankies and ties. I can tell you- if someone told my husband they wanted him to wear a purple shirt, he would drop out. Let them wear white shirts, and purple accents.

I love Modcloth, I've had my eye on that dress Smiley smile Do they have to match? My girls are wearing purple dresses, but the guys are wearing black tuxes with white shirts and silver ties and vests. I personally felt that it would be too much purple if the men wore purple as well. But that's just me. Good luck!

Hmm.... I feel like my DH has a shirt that is that color, but he got it at Kohl's. Maybe it's just a seasonal thing.

But, that is pretty much the exact color we are doing I think and our guys are getting their stuff from Men's Wearhouse.

BUT, I'm doing grey bridesmaid dresses with a purple sash, and the guys are wearing purple vests... Decided I didn't want their dresses to match and I think it will look great. I don't think you need to have an exact match.

I have been thinking about this as well. At first I was going to have the guys' shirts match the BM dresses but the color we went with (also a purple) is too bright for shirts IMO (I think it is brighter then yours, not sure). So the idea of a purple tie or handkerchief could be perfect. Or you could use one of you accent colors. Our flowers will be peach (one of my accent colors) and the other accent color is chartreuse (green shirts? no thank you). I think ties/handkerchiefs match without being too matchy or too much purple.

I like the idea of doing the tie matching the Bm dresses or Handkercheif. It just might be too much purple. or even vests.

My guys matched BM dresses by their ties and vests.
