Have Not Received Wedding Video (6 months late)

Hello everyone! I am seeking some advice. It has been 6 months since my wedding and we still have yet to receive our wedding video. About a week after our wedding, our videographer sent over a one minute recap video as laid out in the contract. After that, we have received one email from him apologizing for the delay, that he has had some personal changes starting a new full time job since wedding work wasn’t pulling in enough money, but that he is actively working on our product and promises to get it to us. That was about 4 months ago. Since then, I have reached out at the 3 month mark asking for an estimated time that it would be finished, and my husband has reached out an additional two times after me. We have not received a single email in return and no further communication. At this point I feel like we are being intentionally ignored or that film might have been lost. Any advice on what my next step should be?

    What is the turn around time in your contract? The few videography contracts I read were 6 month turn around for the hour+ video.

    Do you have a phone number to reach him at? You might have better luck calling for an update. Also try reaching out on social media. Otherwise, is it past the deadline listed in your contract? If so, you could send another email to remind him that the deadline in the contract has passed with no communication on an update, and that if you don't receive your videos or an update within two weeks, you will need to take legal action, since he is in violation of the contract.

    It is best to first just put the request for the video per the contract. Then, in possibly a third letter/email, legal action could be stated -- but only if you are fully ready and knowledgeable to take that action. I think there are legal problems that could arise against you if you make a false threat of legal action.

    But also remember that this company or person has the only video of your ceremony and your goal is to get the video in the best form possible.

    Oh no. That stinks. Yeah, I would probably try a phone call. Even with a full time job, it seems like 6 months is plenty of time. He can at least keep you up to date. After that, it might be time for small claims court.
