has anyone used/booked a food truck?

kaylarae, on April 19, 2014 at 2:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

Just curious if anyone has used/booked a food truck for their wedding or if they have ever been to a wedding that has one.

Although our venue does offer catering, outside companies are allowed and one suggestion that was given to us was having a food truck come. There's a side entrance on the deck of the venue that would be a great place for it to pull up.

I'm just not sure how it would work serving 150 people..

And if you're concerned about the lack of tradition, we're doing BBQ food regardless of how it's served - NO boring, plain, so-called-fancy wedding food! We would do a buffet style if we went with a normal caterer... I can't stand when people do plate service with "chicken or beef"! Let me get my own food please & thank you. I think it would be fun and a great way to support a local business & the food would definitely be warmer if prepared on site!

So have you done it or been to a wedding that had it?

We had BBQ - and everyone loved it.

I think a food truck is an awesome idea. Several other brides here have done it. I would contact the food truck you're interested in using and let them know of the people, etc. Or perhaps get two food trucks to have variation.

Yay for a fellow BBQ bride! haha we're in Oklahoma and all of my side is coming from Canada so I think it'll be great to give them real southern bbq! I'm glad your guests loved it! I will definitely look into it

We're having standard wedding food, but we're going buffet style too! I also dislike plated dinners. But I think a food truck is a great idea! They're really popular!

We thought about doing an In-n-out truck for late night munchies but the min. Purchase had to be $1400 and it is hamburgers no fries, chips is what they offer with it. I couldn't justify paying that much. And not getting the fries! Haha that may sound silly but I can bring my own chips I dont need to pay a ton of money for that.

I've been to a couple weddings with food trucks, and they can easily accomodate 150+ people. Not everyone is going to be rushing to the food truck ASAP Smiley smile All of them did it for a "late night" meal. We're thinking of doing it too as a late night!

We're doing it for an extra dessert with our cake (frozen custard with all sorts of toppings). The deposit was $550 and then once we have a final count and estimate it, the rest due is based on that. Our reception is at a hotel so they're going to have a set up inside. We went to another wedding with them and it was awesome! My vote is yes!

I was just at a wedding this last weekend that had a food truck for their normal meal. It took FOREVER. There were about 120 people there and I think it took like an hour for everyone to get their food. It was for burritos and tacos. I would make sure the truck has a way to get the food out quickly, because this food truck did not.

Serving 150 people from a food truck will take a LONG time. I think for extras-- like a late night snack or dessert-- its okay, but I would strongly encourage to NOT use it for your meal.

Food Trucks will probably need to heat the food as it is ordered, so finding a truck that has a way to get food out "quickly" is not really an option.

Have you asked the venue if any other couples have gone with this option? It's possible that's why they suggested it. If so, you can ask them for more info on how it worked at that particular venue.

We booked the in n out truck! We are looking for additional catering options for hors d'oeuvres and sides.

Yes! We are having an Italian food truck with a buffet style reception. Asiago mac n cheese, meatballs with mozz and fresh basil, Tagliatelle with sausage and butternut squash, pecan and apple salad with white balsamic vinaigrette. Her food was so good when we had our tasting. Can't wait!

I good friend used one at her wedding. The biggest problem was the time issues, two other friends and I ended up taking orders to get everyone moved along faster and delivering food! I think it's a really cute idea but maybe discuss with the food vendor about having a head start on the food and limit the menu, even offer dinner sections on the RSVP so that the food truck can have a better idea of what they are going to need and when.

But also understand that your food will not come out all at once, there are only a couple people in those trucks, and also consider having help serving guests that their aren't 150 people in line for a food truck waiting Smiley laugh
