Has anyone made their own DIY Bridal Bouquet?

Ashley, on August 4, 2011 at 6:40 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 18

Is it hard? How did you do it? Do you have pictures? I'm looking for a really cheap way to do it, but I'm not creative in decorating OR flower arranging, so I'm not sure if it's even worth it for me to try! I've wondered if I could buy the fake flowers at Michael's and have their floral department do it, but I'm not sure of the cost of that either.

I don't want to spend the money on real flowers, mostly because I want a FULL looking bouquet...

I'm planning on doing it myself, but I have no how idea yet. All I know is I'm using white orchids and purple accent flowers. I know someone had a good tutorial on how they made theirs, hopefully they will post it

    Edit: Here it is https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-forums/for-those-who-have-asked/78cce12d9b47bf78.html

Also, I remember reading something online about using a styrofoam "ball" on the inside of the bouquet to stick the flowers in if you use one that doesn't have long stems like in the link above... And then just make sure the flowers are close enough together that it hides it. I guess that's what I will have to do

Oh wow, they did a nice job! I do remember seeing that post where they talked about the styrofoam ball thingy...I've thought about it, but I think I'll just use the whole stems if I use fake flowers...This is tough!

I did my own toss bouquet out of fake flowers. Then wrapped the stems with ribbon. Cost about 7 dollars. But it is not large. All our other flowers will be done by my florist.

I am allergic, so I did all of my own flowers. I bought my flowers at Michaels. THe stems were 50% off and I had a 20% off coupon.

THere are a lot of tutorials out there to help. My one suggestion would be don't skimp on the flowers. I paid about $9.00 per stem for my bouquet which is nothing more than 2 copper hydrangea, 1 champagne peonie and green velvet roses. I also sprung for the peridot stars because I am wearing peridot jewelry.

My bouquet and the vase I made to go with it.

    Good luck.

I did mine. They are artificial, but look really real. I'd never done any flower arranging before either, but it was actually kind of fun. And the nice part about silks is you can play with them ahead of time and get the bouquets EXACTLY how you want them. Plus I've heard a lot of horror stories about flowers the day of the wedding being wrong or wilting, etc.

    Ashley B. - Thanks!

I figured I'd re-post them since you were asking... threads get buried so quickly on here. Smiley smile

    Deana C. -

The curly things used in the bouts is the same wire I used in the bouquets. It's a really pliable wire. I'm working up a DIY tutorial on the armbands I made (not shown above) that I did for my FH's "grooms attendants" since we're having all girls in our wedding except for his son. You can probably find the wire at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. I got mine at a store called Nordlies.
