Has anyone lost too much weight?

Mrs. Strong!!!, on January 25, 2012 at 1:34 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

So I tried my dress on this weekend. When I ordered it I was 10 pounds heavier than I am now. In hind site I probably should have ordered a size down from what I tried on, but I wasn't confidant I could lose the weight.

The dress still looks good, but it is going to need to be taken in a bit. I'm concerned that I'm going to get told it can't be taken in on the sides do to so much beading. It's also got a corset back that isn't in the shape of a V anymore when you tie it up. It looks more like, hmmm...I don't know, like a corset that's too big I guess! LOL The top of the V is closed instead of opened like it should be.

Does anyone else have/had these alterations fears?

I wish I'd had more confidence in myself when I ordered it to go a size down. I really didn't think I'd be able to lose more than a couple of pounds.

Same here. My mom actually yelled at me not to lose anymore weight. Just a few months ago she yelled at me for gaining weight. My mom bought my dress and when she purchased it in May the dress fit perfectly but the dress fit a little snug back in November. Well two weeks ago I tried it on again and now its poofy in the waist and hip areas.

I think you'll be alright - a good seamstress can work miracles. I hope when I order my dress I have the same problem as you. :-)

Well first off, good for you in being healthy and reaching the goal you REALLY wanted to reach! That's great!

I wouldn't stress too much. I'm pretty sure most dresses can be changed 2 sizes before you get into real structural issues. My dress has like five pounds of taffeta train at the bottom, and I'm 4'11" and it's all being taken up a solid foot. Smiley smile

Edit- I wrote something about adding a corset back but it was a reading comprehension fail. Smiley smile They can probably make the corset smaller if you need.

Marie's right, a good seamstress is like a magician. Don't stress.

I have lost 15 pds since i got engaged...and when trying on wedding dresses my mom yelled at me for losing too much weight... we ordered a size 4 which is big on me, so i am hoping I will not have to get too much alterations, but I have a feeling i will.

I think you should just ask if you can get it taken in, and then go from there.

Your seamstress may be able to make the back in to a zippered dress since it's one size bigger that is what I'm planning on doing if I can lose the right amount of weight!

You guys are making me feel a little better about this. My first fitting is in March, so I'm trying to not loose anymore weight, but I'm still trying to "tighten" some spots up.

I really don't want to have to turn it into a zipper back, I love the corset. I'm starting to have hope that it'll all work out and fit well. Now I'm just going to be dreading the cost of alterations! LOL

Edit: I guess if they can take it in on the sides that would open the corset back up?

I ordered my dress one size smaller in early November. I was on the bubble between 2 sizes. I had to practically sign my life away because I ordered the dress in a size that did not match up with my measurements. Since then, I have lost 18 pounds, so I know it will fit. I would really like to lose about 40 more, so I hope that will work with the dress. It is also a corset back. It doesn't have a lot of beading by the waist and hips, but it does have ruching. Had I known the dress would come so quickly (it came in on 1/13), I would have waited a couple of months to order it. But they do scare you with the ordering timeline. I think we will both be OK. Good luck!

I went to the doctor's for a routine physical. he said I lost 20 lbs in 1 year! it has been stressful planning and I lost most of the weight when I got sick several times.

I'm in the same situation. I ordered a size up thinking I wouldn't lose the weight (yes, all the weight gained from being in love Smiley smile

Funny thing is, the boutique ladies actually told me I would lose weight and suggested I go down a size, rather than up. I said, no. I don't plan on losing weight and I want to be able to feel comfortable during the wedding. But, they were right! They must have seen it a 100x by now.

I wouldn't worry about the alterations.. they can do it, but it might be pricey. I'm not looking forward to my bill.

I lost too much weight, so I just stopped worrying about skipping dessert and hooked my corset more loosely. I was more comfortable that way anyway Smiley smile
